I'm getting into the web design game but is this a good idea??
I am a contractor electrician/handyman by day so I want to focus on the trades/service industry. But I also want to focus on the hotel and restaurant/pizza shops because I worked in customer service for many years also.
Is it bad to focus on certain niches and turn down certain clients? I read a lot about people going after lawyers because the have "the big bucks" but I wouldn't know the type of content to put on those type of sites.
It all comes down to what I go through working in the trades...many tradesmen that specialize in a trade hate on the handymen that don't specialize and handymen often do things wrong.
I don't want to be a webdesign "handyman" and take on work from clients in fields I don't know much about such as lawyers and others.
If I design websites for the trades I know exactly what type of content to put on those sites and how it should look. I know what needs to be said to draw in more business because I am in this business.
Is this a good plan? or am I leaving a lot of money on the table by not catering to everyone who wants a website?
I read about it being hard enough to find clients and if I'm making the pool smaller would it be even harder? Or will it be easier to gain clients being a specialist in some?
