Ways to Boost my credibility?

Hey there, I have been trying my hand on offline marketing for some time and I have noticed that people don't respond to my offers (heck! they even don't reply to my free SEO campaign offer).

I feel that may be it is because of my nationality (Indian, I also stay in India) and trust issue combined.

So I have come up with some ways to overcome this issue, please let me have your feed back and suggestions about how can I improve, and if I am going the right way.

So here is my plan of action to overcome my nationality/trust issue:
1. Create a full fledged IM Blog using my name as domain name, I believe it will help me gain audience, trust and get some customers.

2. Create a professional looking website offering services like SEO, PPC.

P.S. I know this will not be sufficient. I don't mind working for less in the beginning phase but heck how do I get my first Client?

Your portfolio and video testimonials can do wonders. You can also offer 30 day money back guarantee etc.

Portfolio and testimonial will only come once I get some customers, that is the issue mate.

Here are the services I wish to offer:
      1. SEO
      2. PPC
      3. Simple wordpress website

Do you think I can make decent living selling these services online to people from US and UK even though I am from India?

      I need a starting point.

    Hi,

Definitely build that blog and combine it with the professional services. Then at least you have something to back you up when you call on businesses. Also, in general, try to help out and contribute wherever you can.

what´s really killing for leads is using webinars as gaining credibility. Everyone can say he/she is an expert in a niche but the webinar is a lead generating machine. So wish you good luck and hope it helps

Here are some more ways I have come up with:
    1. Write a Short Report on SEO and give it for free here and other places.
    2. Get myself Interviewed ( got this Idea from Joseph Robinson posted, thanks mate)

I have also heard that to be successful in getting projects from US and UK, I must hire a full time marketer or have a marketing partner there?

Is it true? Can't I get projects using the power of Internet?

Ive done offline marketing and I can tell you that if you can go out and knock on some doors, you can land your first customers this way.

And you don't even need to be pushy or over the top. Have a professional flier done ahead of time the describes your services with your contact information.

Sometimes when you walk in, the owner will be busy or defer you to someone else but just leave your flier if you cannot talk to the decision maker.

The thing is I am from India, and I don't think there is much need and awareness for online marketing till now, hence the demand is less. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You live in a nation with a billion people.
You mention how there isn't awareness of online marketing there.

So you are local and you have potential clients that haven't had a chance to be burned out by the 10 cold calls they get a day and you would rather target the saturated US market?

Even though the US is in the middle of a recession where every night on the news we hear about the lack of jobs. A point that many Americans blame on outsourcing. And guess where the average American thinks those jobs went? India? Why? Because every time we call a major company we speak to an Indian. Do you know how many of the cold calls I get are clearly Indian?

Why with all the positives you have in India and all the negatives you have in the US would you want to target US based companies?

Yes i understand that clients in the US are worth more. But you are just starting out anyways so why not start local? If you grow beyond your borders you can easily afford US based cold callers.

Not sure how familar you are with Baseball. But it works well here. If everytime a player came up to bat they all tried to hit home runs the team would loss. It take a lot of base hits including bunts to win the game. Sure the home runs are flashy but they are not the bread and butter of the game.

I tried to translate the idea into Football(soccer) and just couldn't find a good way to word it.

You have a point, but I am from a small city in India, and further something that prevents me from cold calling is my day job (10 to 8).

I ll give it a try Aaron if you don't mind.

In football, even though it's often the strikers who get the recognition for a victory, if a team was made of strikers only, it would certainly loose!

You also need to have a keeper and defenders who make the 'dirty' job!

      That was fun!

If you plan on doing SEO services, it may help to build up your perceived client list by creating a few niche websites and SEO'ing them yourself. Then show what you've done on your blog. If you phrase it right, most people won't even realize you aren't doing it for a client, and it will build up the idea that you're an expert.

One of the fastest ways that I built up credibility and a little bit of name recognition was to publish a book...

I spent about 2 weeks putting an hour per night in to the book until it was finished. I had my wife read it over and edit any spelling or grammar mistakes. I then put it on Amazon inside the Kindle Select Program for $5 and put it through CreateSpace to get a physical version and set that at $10.

I bought some solo ads and had people mail to my Amazon book page to get some initial sales and reviews which took it to #1 in the blogging category on Amazon...

From here on out, for the rest of my life, I can say I'm a best-selling author with screenshots and an Amazon page to prove it.

    Easy credibility.

    Matt

Your blog/website will help. Another thing you may want to consider is using a term other than SEO.

Many businesses don't understand it that well. Focus on selling them more customers without expensive advertising
