"Don't ever make this mistake in your offline business...!"

Hey Offliners,

It's that time of year again.

The time of year that you start hearing other offliners say stuff like....

"Most business owners are more interested in the holidays right now, so it's better to wait until the beginning of next year."

Or...

"It's okay to stop prospecting as much because most business owners aren't in the buying mood anyway."

Or...

"Around the holidays, I pause most of my lead gen campaigns because business owners are too busy with personal stuff to hire me."

Well, I'm here today to give you a warning and tell you not to fall for that garbage.

Every year somebody announces that they're waiving the grey flag (not quite white for surrender, but not quite the color of their attack flag either.)

Unless you work with seasonal business owners, it's just a bunch of excuses.

(Even most seasonal businesses want to diversify their income and they usually dabble in other businesses that are year-round...so get hired to help them with that side business too!)

Now, that's not to say that there aren't better or worst times for certain lead gen strategies.

But, most offliners aren't doing anywhere near the volume or putting in the type of effort that it takes to really see how to "time" it just right.

We all know that "timing" things just right, otherwise known as optimization, in the right hands becomes a deadly profit booster.

However, many of the times that I see offliners trying to "time" things in order to get them right, it's just a thinly veiled reason for procrastination.

Well, I'm telling you that today is the right day to do your lead gen, prospecting, cold calling, emailing, direct mail campaigns and every other marketing strategy you know how to do.

In my experience, there's rarely ever a perfect time to do anything.

There's just better or worst times. Perfect doesn't seem to exist in my target market.

Right now is the best time to get started with your marketing campaigns in order to get a consistent flow of clients that you can pick and choose from.

There are business owners who are making decisions year-round because they also need customers year-round.

How about putting together a holiday special for your own services?

Why not play off of the holiday theme in your own business and stoke the "customers are in the buying mood because it's holiday time" flame in your target market?

Turn that situation around in your favor.

Instead of bowing out gracefully, you become the offliner who signs up five new monthly recurring clients during the "slow" time of the year.

So, when you start to hear rumblings of the holiday blues from other offline marketers, don't buy into that junk.

Now, go forth and prosper!

Chris

  • Great post especially considering some target markets have more free time during the "colder months" depending on the area and climate.

I personally am targeting a business market where I know for a fact the owners prefer to do annual or internal reviews in the winter months (new website, cheaper insurance, advertising expenses during year). It's the end and the beginning of the fiscal years, reviewing budget times, less stressed because of slower schedule, more time to focus on those things "they have been wanting to add to their business or improve".

There's a season for every sale!
