Got my first new clent via car magnets

Car magnets are something we NEVER had luck with so we don't use them anymore. We even put them on the back of trucks thinking it would be a better idea, but people never called. So we stopped using them completely.

Glad you got a call. Next time try using bandit signs, they may work better for you.

I use a magnet for my site on my car. I don't think it's worked even once. It's a really h\it or miss thing it seems.

I should say that I am a dog walker, and with my car being mostly local it makes sense to advertise in your own space.

Plus the colours for branding are bright yellow, and that magnet is on a grey car - great contrast.

Another thing is that it has a cute dog on it, that has people stop and look. I work the space as much as I can.

Vehicle magnets scream unprofessional and temporary and, I'm not committed enough to just letter my vehicle professionally and that's the main reason no gets calls off of vehicle magnets.

I say why not. It depends on the ad. Like any other form of advertising, the layout, words, who you're targeting, what the ad says and how it's said play an important role in if the ad has results. It's just the same online too. If you have a good squeeze page targeting the right audience with the right offer, you're bound to get some response.

If you are a dog walker get one of those small van type things and get it sign wrapped.

Doesn't cost much and works a treat.

It's a one off tax deductible cost and good for your type of business.

Because having ran around in the construction industry for 20+ years I learned that magnets = fly by night. What people are doing is looking at it from their business perspective and not the potential customers perspective. Would you hire a roofer or a web guy for that matter that had a 24X18 magnet slapped to the door of his car or truck?

Just letter your vehicle, its better for the vehicle and its better for your image.

I put magnets on my car for 4 months for another mlm business I was doing and not a single call. After I reflect on it, magnets do seem unprofessional in a sense.

Magnets look cheap imo, vehicle wraps look class if branded right. Obviously dearer but they give a far better image.

I don't think car magnets should be relied on to generate leads, however it's definitely a great source to brand yourself. The way I see it is if one day a potential client is looking for a dog walker they will look online and remember your business name because of that magnet which somehow makes them believe you're more credible.

What other forms of marketing are you using?

I own a sign company as well, and I will say I don't even offer vehicle magnets for customers anymore. When they come in asking for one, I up sell them to vehicle lettering (usually just on the windows if they don't want the vinyl on the paint) and it looks a lot more professional. Like others said, I feel that magnetic signs scream "scam" or "fly by night". For the cost of a pair of magnets, you can letter the back window. It will be larger and easier to read by people stopped behind you at traffic lights. If customers are worried about visibility, we also can wrap the back window with perforated vinyl which is easy to see through, or I can use an outline font for cut vinyl which allows you to easily see through the lettering.

Hey Rob...how much is perfor....whatever that word is you used (LOL) wrapping on car windows? I always wanted one for my back window but when I went to a local place to inquire and he told me some crazy astronomical figure...I said to hell with that thought! I also had noticed that they had bragging rights to having worked on a huge mega church and pocketed a pretty sum so my walking in there, for them, was the laugh of the day!

But most average people don't see it as that; cheesy and cheap or fly by night. At least, I don't. To me, it's all about the compelling *message!* But why can't they have both? The website & phone number on the window and a magnetic sign for more detailed and exciting, colorful info!

A BLAND, VAGUE sign gets NO calls...but a bright, colorful and INFORMATIVE sign will! It needs to address and hit every mental WHO, WHAT, WHERE and WHY so people immediately GET IT or want it! For all those who see it and don't need it...they probably know somebody who does and will take down your info and pass it along!

I put magnets on my truck for computer repair and I actually got people come up to me and ask me about it.

In time I had them on their I recieved about 4 customers.

worth it if you ask me.

I also like to give out my cards and point to the sign when ever I speak with some one. that is standing next to the truck.

I think people take you a little more seriouse when they see magnets on a car or truck it may look cheap and cheesy but as a start up business you have to get the word out as much as you can and by any means neccesarry.

I even put bandit signs out side my home.

I don't care if it looks cheesy and you think that my business looks cheap.
Atleast I got you to think about my business and in the end thats whats it all about
right?

AAAAAAAA MENNNNN!!!

You made 'em LOOK and that's HALF the battle! Now, your sign has to have 10 second CATCHABILITY to make em take action and either call or go to your website! If nobody has called or gone to your site...then it's not the *sign*..it's the MESSAGE! They didn't *get* it or not enough catchability in it for them to pursue you. I can't count HALF the times I've seen some dumb wasted sign taking up space on vehicles because all it had was the company name, phone number and some stupidly vague caption that told absolutely NOTHING about what the company did or why anyone should call!

You don't know how many times I wanted to just get the phone number and call the damned company to complain about their STUPID signs!!! The next time I see one...I'm going to do JUST that (telling them--how do you expect to get customers with that dumb sign--if NOBODY knows WHY they should call!?!) and see what their reaction is gonna be!

I think a magnetic sign for computer services or photography also advertises "expensive equipment may be in this vehicle." Better make sure any would-be thieves can look in and see it's empty before they damage your vehicle.

Thieves are creatures of opportunity and generally are not picky about what they steal, especially if it's an easy mark/target. Heck, I was in a local library using my laptop one day, a phone call came in so I got up to go outside and take the call. Came back and my ear buds had been snatched out of their port and taken! This shocked me as there were people sitting directly across and next to me!
