Chiropractor First Client...

Hey everyone... wanted to share my experience getting my first client and share my mistakes and success.
I figure that I can help everyone by sharing my story.

I started off by e-mailing a local chiropractor in my area.
My e-mail wen't like this.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Hi Dr _____________

My name is Robben Salter.
I live in ____________ near your town ____________

I found your website recently and wanted to introduce myself.
just a tiny bit of background info on me.

I've been involved in internet marketing since 2004.

I worked for a big internet marketing guy named Ryan Deiss in 2009 (the guy is a multi millionaire marketing guru)
In 2010 I worked for a small SEO firm called ______________ in atlanta GA.

I've been studying online and offline marketing now for quite some time.
You seem to have a really good grasp on marketing your website online (both with google local and youtube and article marketing)

I'm looking to take on a single client that I can work one on one with.

Just a few thing's that I'm skilled at.

Search Engine Optimization.

I'm skilled at building back links, and writing and outsourcing content creation. (text)
That includes writing articles, press releases.

Video Marketing using Traffic Geyser and other video marketing tools.

Social Media (I have 11,000 twitter followers)
Including facebook, twitter, pinterest.

Running a small business is a full time responsibility, and marketing is a full time job by itself.
I would like to meet you in person and talk about the possiblity of me being your full time marketing guy.

Let me know what you think!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This e-mail got this response.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DOCTOR: "Thanks for contacting me, can you build squeeze pages?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day I introduced myself by visiting his office.
the visit wen't like this.

ME: "Hi, are you Dr.________?
DR: Yes... what can I do for you?
ME: My names Robben Salter, I sent you an e-mail the other day about building squeeze pages for you.
DR: oh yes, could you give me a minute I have a patient in the other room
ME: Sure, no problem... (waits in the waiting room)
DR. Dr comes out "here' come in my office"
ME: I sit down on a little kids chair, he props himself up onto his operating table

DR. blank stare... what can I do for you?
ME: Hey I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself, I saw your e-mail and just wanted to come by
and person to talk with you about building your squeeze pages.
ME: What did you have in mind with them?

He explains that he wants to optimize them for SEO purposes.
I explain that optimizing squeeze pages is hard, and that PPC might be a better alternative.

He asks about my history and experience and I share with him what I've done.
I also tell him that I'm new to this and that he's the first person I've ever approached, and that I'm looking to build
a portfolio of work, and that I'm not out to charge a arm and a leg.

The visit ends, he thanks me for my time, and he says that he will e-mail me friday and we can talk more via email.

I then sen't a follow up e-mail with a camtasia video explaining in detail the services I would provide for him and told him my price.
he loved the personal video, and said he was ready to buy.

And that's how I got my first client.

SUCCESS BREAK DOWN.

1.I demonstrated authority in the first e-mail.
2.I followed up after he wrote me back with a suprise in person visit.
3.I was calm and humble when explaining my objectives (to build my portfilio)
and put him at ease with pricing.
4.I followed up our visit with a video

All in all, it took 12 back and forth e-mails, 1 live person visit, and a video to make a $197 a month sale.
(I could have asked for more, but I genuinely want to get my portfiolio of clients and testimonials up and running)

Thanks Guys... I learned a lot from this visit, I definitely wen't outside my comfort zone by visiting him.

I think in person surprises is a great idea for showing that you're serious about helping the person you're talking with. (even though its a little intimidating as a local marketer)

Wow, thanks for the tips! I'll be doing the same thing, target local business owners but didn't really know how to approach them.

Well done. You were lucky though. I see a chiro regularly and you were very lucky you caught him in a free moment. Cold calling after an email conversation can be tricky but you can be lucky too. Maybe next time make a few similar scenarios and then do them all so if you miss one or two, you still get others.

I think surprised visit or personally meeting your client is really a great idea and a good marketing strategy. I might try that with my online marketing business.

    5. The client is into marketing. Even knew what a squeeze page was.

You may have been lucky on this one. Usually, when a sales call ends, and the prospect says they'll get back to you, you don't hear back from most of them.
