Trying to Help A Friend - A Great Salesmen

So one of my buddies is a stand-up comic. He lived in LA for a long time and he has been able to make a living being a stand-up. He has now moved back from LA, and he definitely needs another source of income now.

The guy is an amazing salesmen (he got moved up in a cold calling center in LA really fast). He's got the gift, but he's not landing any jobs.

Any ideas on what he could do? He's not all that good with computers, but he is a good salesmen. He's not getting interviews for some reason, but he says he interviews well.

Is there something else he could start? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

What does his resume look like? If he doesn't stand out, he won't get interviews.

Also, how is he finding the opportunities to apply? Monster and CareerBuilder are not the place to look.

    Lots of ideas here.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to re-look at his resume. Thanks again. I'll definitely have to re-connect with him.

If he's a great salesman, I'd suggest he look into working for a mortgage lender - they're always looking for loan officers and closers. I used to be a mortgage broker and got my NMLS license (new laws enacted a few years ago that require people handling loans to be licensed by NMLS). I got a call the other day from a local company looking for closers. Base was $2500/month plus commissions for closed loans (no cold calls, they'd direct calls to me) as a loan officer (in-house for their company). And if he wanted to be an account executive (goes out into the field to get business), he'd make $1500 base plus commissions. If he's willing to invest in an NMLS license (about $1200 or so for the actual tests and study material), and he's a good closer, I think he'd make it back pretty quickly.

If he is that great of a salesman.... put him to work yourself.

let him sell, and you get the work done.

websites, mobile sites, seo ... just about anything.

This could be an opportunity for the two of you... and your both letting
it slip through your fingers if your helping him find a JOB.

Great salespeople are hard to come by. Snatch him up
and work out a deal if you can.

You know I actually considered that. I've been so busy with everything that I have on my table right now that I don't know that I can take that on.

Maybe soon!! Thanks it is something to consider, and you are right I probably should jump on that and spend some time to train him.
