I noticed it. Hard.
I have about 100 domains that are only a few pages each. The domain names are exact match for product and city. All are now lost several pages back, where they were on the first page before.

I also noticed that my websites that have lots of content, and are Wordpress sites with Pagerank, haven't moved.

I understand why Google did this. We find a way to take advantage of the system, for profit...and they just want a better user experience. So my hat's off to them.

But for my business? Not a positive thing. And I'm debating if I want to go to the effort to rebuild my "lost" sites, or just stop paying for the domain names.

I know going forward, the domain name is less important, and better layout and content is more important.

I haven't been effected by this. Yellowbook has though, which is awesome for me.

Focus on quality instead of thin sites and you'll be fine.

I'm with nameless on this one. I have 1 exact match domain with nothing in it and I am still beating engadget, geek.com and techradar. Thanks though for the heads up!

Something I noticed; My video listings are still strong. And now I have several local search results that are nothing but video sites for the first two pages or longer. Directories are further back, most websites are further back. But not video. They seem unaffected.

And I have three money sites with shopping carts that have virtually dis-appeared. They have strong exact match domain names, but also lots of content. Gone. But I'll give it a few days before I panic.

In fact. I set aside Thursday to panic. Anyone want to join me? :p

  I only have a few sites to begin with but of those my emd tax attorney site is no where to be found anymore. I have 3 quirky one page holiday decoration type sites of which one is no where to be found. The remaining two are still in the #1 spots.
  
  My junkiest, poorly spun site using a wso bought plugin to prepopulate city and state titles which literally is in the sell your junk car industry is still getting visits and sits on the first page for numerous local searches.
  
  Who knows at this point what's really happening. I just hope everyone let's their domains expire so I can snap them up and resell them to legitimate local businesses who so far appear to be non affected by this madness.

The great G think that they improve their quality listing but do you think it's good. For local listing it heart more by this updates. If you will search any thing today with particular service or product with city name, you will get result from yellowpages, merchantcircle, yelp, superpages, servicemagic, angieslist, manta and similar classified websites. You need to click those sites and then search listing companies there.

So my question is that from great G is that "are those listing involve with any niche of business?" If not then why there listing found at first page? Think......

I got hit as well. It's understandable to institute a worldwide algo to get rid of some of the EMD trash, but doing this locally is just stupid.

I just checked about 100 client websites. About a third are now back to page one of a Google search. After the slap, I added lots of content, reduced the level of keyword density, and resubmitted the websites. I don't know if the change was because of what I did to my sites or not, but we are getting back to where we were.

I also noticed lots of competitor website virtually disappeared even though they weren't EMD sites. Weird.

Anyway, it sure helped my videos in the rankings.

Mine and many of my competitors sites have all been relegated to page 100 or beyond. Taking our page one place are sites such as directories, Yellow Page, True Local etc.

SEO is a waste of time. You can't run a proper business when it depends on a third party and is out of you own control.

I'm real. Next month? Try now. If you like, you can give up. It makes more room for the ones who adapt. The problem, is that many think that adapting is a one time thing. It's continuous, and part of the process is for others to quit.

Google just changed what SEO is. Google didn't make it ineffective. And I've already adapted. This last month I took a huge hit. The biggest one yet. But it never occured to me that I wouldn't be able to figure it out, and keep going.

You are absolutely right about one thing; Depending on what a third party does is not optimal. I can't contol what Google does. But I can control how I react to it. The internet isn't gone. Google still lists websites, and they probably will for at least a few years. They set up a series of filters. Lots of my sites fell through. But not all. So I figured out what this meant, I regrouped, and I'm already getting websites to pop up again.

If you don't want to do SEO anymore, I respect that. There are lots of ways to make money online. But SEO isn't dead. SEO is different now, that's all. And I decided to keep up.

Most of what I did a year ago, that worked,.... had to be abandoned and different strategies implimented. But it's just like it has been for several years. Google figures out how we game the system, they improve how they filter results, we adapt our approach. It's not like this is the first time I've heard "Seo is dead". Every time Google hick-ups, it's a disaster for some, and opportunity for others.

And I admit that SEO is a small part of how I make money, so I don't take it as hard as some. Anyway, I wish you good fortune.

EMD update is not too much to deal with if you have a good quality, genuine content just revisit what you have done and go through your sites and check all the factors that count.

Yep, the game is changing as always.

90% of client emds and my lead gen sites were slapped hard. Those without keyword anchors/little link building/non targeted anchors are still strong. It's going to get interesting moving forward as G makes the push to get everyone switched over to PPC.
