I started a few cold calls ..probably about 20 and am getting discouraged. I was going to sell SMS marketing to restaurants and spas..etc..

After reading ALL day yesterday about other ways on this forum. (Websites, Mobile sites, Website design) my head is reeling.

I want to rush out and get business cards, set up a website and make flyers! But I don't have a starting point..

Just today I noticed and looked into a local salon and auto repair shop that both don't have websites or FB fan pages. They would sooo benefit ffrom it!

But I don't know what to do, should I just walk in and say hey, I can build you a site, you'll make more money?

Part of me says I need to make a "menu" of sorts for pricing. OR a flyer showing WHY they should get a site. OR a facebook page.. OR a mobile site.

I call these places and I have the script in front of me, that I bought on the WF from Arron and I find myself just skipping it and stuttering about until they just shut me down.

I rush through my script because I feel they are busy and I'm wasting their time.

I can sell my actual day job all day (Electrical Proj Engineer) but I'm finding this difficult.

I feel like I'm constantly running out of time or missing the boat because I dont know how to do something. I want to offer a website design to those places, but I BARELY know wordpress. Just enough to install themes, etc. What if they ask for an example? What If I sell them a mobile site, I can't build that!

Is Saturday a bad day to cold call?

    Wow, man.

    Take a deep breath.

Are you in this for real, or just a flash in the pan?

You have a lot to learn. Use the search function. Calling is a skill. You are not going to learn or get good at it overnight. 20 calls is nothing.

Anything you don't know how to do, you can outsource.

Jason is spot on in advising you to Slow Down and in saying this is a skill. If you persevere you will get better at the dreaded cold call.

However, what concerns me is this:

I call these places and I have the script in front of me, that I bought on the WF from Arron and I find myself just skipping it and stuttering about until they just shut me down.

I rush through my script because I feel they are busy and I'm wasting their time.

I can sell my actual day job all day (Electrical Proj Engineer) but I'm finding this difficult.
If you believe you are wasting their time that is exactly what you will do!

If you know that your services can help improve their bottom line those few minutes on the phone with you could be the best spent time of their day. Don't forget this. You have information that is actually vital to the performance of their business.

If you still feel that you are wasting people's time after carefully considering this perhaps you have picked the wrong niche. I understand that these are harsh words and I certainly don't want to discourage you. Take it as a challenge! Prove me wrong

Here are a couple of pointers that should help a little with those calls.

    1. Don't read that script word for word. People can tell. Practise on you partner, your kids, your dog.....anyone you can pin down. You will find your own voice!

    2. Take a few deep breaths as you dial. Try to relax.

    3. Smile Yes, actually smile as you speak. You could even put a small mirror in front of yourself while you work to help you keep that smile. Smiling makes it way easier to connect with Mr Prospect on the other end of the line. And it will help you relax too!

I hope these few suggestions make things a little easier for you.

You have got to KNOW and understand that your job is to help
the business owner realize HIS dream. Not yours. So you need
to ask questions. Lots of questions. Then when you understand
HIS goals, figure out what skills you have that can help him.
Then you are not wasting his time or yours.

The main point is helping him. The money will take care of itself.

Search Jason for sales advice/cold calling, search the forum for "John Durham" and read his advice on how to sell websites/what to offer/start up to build a rep for yourself. Check out some of my threads for cold calling tips also.

If you can't get over the cold calling hump, get with me or Jason. We can train you (each a little differently)...or I can take the heat off and do it for you and just let you do your own sales. It's not something you can do 20 calls on and expect a result - especially if you have the mindset you do with bothering the customers/wasting their time.

Stop, breathe, focus, plan...then do it.

The other thing that struck me - I FELT overwhelmed reading through your post so I'm sure you are feeling the same thing. It is overwhelming when you start something new. I think back to how I learned to use a computer (back in the days of DOS and no Windows) and it took TIME and some consistency.

Give yourself some Grace and time. Take the advice of those who came before you and learn your own style. Do what you do best, and then outsource the rest. Do NOT spend all your time learning - you will make mistakes but the faster you make them and get up and do it again the faster you'll learn.

Also, focus on ONE thing at a time. If you want to learn to do the cold calls then learn that - if not get with Mwind and outsource it. If you want to do all the building then learn that - if not outsource the design and development. This is your business and it is up to you to build it - not work IN it but ON it.

    Hope that helps!
