I have an offbeat question....

Does anyone know of a site similar to Alibaba?
I am having a difficult time finding a reputable site.
There are some websites from Korea, Japan etc.... that cater to importing goods from there to here (USA)
I want to know if there was a website for finding foreign companies that would importin stuff from here to there.

Any idea's?

You can check out doba.com as an option as well.

The best thing you can do is put yourself out there.

You know I always wondered why people mentioned Alibaba in these types of threads, but never doba.

Check out Tradekey.com. Also, I think you might be able to set yourself up as a supplier on Alibaba. I don't think it's a rule you can't be a US exporter on there.

Alibaba is as reputable as they come and was around before the internet. 146 million dollars per day exchange hands on it. There are alot of myths about it just being a bunch of scammers....but thats the minority, they are mostly major manufacturers and distributors doing big trade.

There are other b2b sites but its the best. As far as scammers, thats a "per capita" thing. Where there are lots of marketers there is a percentage of that, but per capita, its no higher than any other site.

I have tried other b2b sites and in my experience they have been inferior, however I have made alot of HUUUGE sales on alibaba.

Have been tempted to go back to that fulltime a few times, but its not as scalable as "offline"....or predictable, even though most offline sales are smaller. Alibaba is good to bring you a huge chunk of cash here and there, and fairly regularly if you work it, but its not so cookie cutter as offline marketing as we know it... and Im an emyth guy at heart. I like "cookie cutter".

In another lifetime, I had reason to use tradekey.com, importer.ec21.com, ec21.com, tradeboss.com, ecplaza.net. alibaba, at the time (3 years ago) was the worst of the bunch.

The ones that had a fee to be a member were better. But I don't remember which is which.

Also, linkedin has an importer/exporter group... tons of people doing tons of moving things from one country to another.

Anyone still doing this? I'd built up some contacts, but was never able to complete a deal. Is it still viable to pursue?

1: Most people will never be able to complete ANYTHING that requires any real dedication, including an offline deal. You have to realize that, and its never because they didnt try, if you ask them, you have to realize that too. Be exceptional. Try harder, and be more longsuffering than they are.

2: Yes its viable, its the biggest international trade site in the world where almost 150 million dollars per DAY exchange hands. Of COURSE its viable. All you have to do is figure out how to be one those hands that are exchanging.

3: Keep trying till you crack that nut, if you want it bad enough. Thats what all people who complete successful deals do.

      Happy wholesaling.

      -John

Ps. It doesnt matter what anyone else is doing. You see the industry there; go relentlessly attack it till you get your piece of the pie. There is no doubt, the worlds biggest pie is sitting right there.
