A BLURB ON YELP - they soon may be hollering HELP

Reputation management is a hot topic on this forum and Yelp seems to get their share of attention. I happen to subscribe to a NL in the fiinance arena and the author had a piece devoted to Yelp. I have copied a portion of it for your reading pleasure:

Yelp has included a way to see all of a business's reviews. So if you use the site, make sure you see all of the reviews by checking the "filtered reviews." Once you find a business you're interested in, scroll down to the last review. Below it, in light grey text, you'll see an option to view "Unfiltered Reviews." This will give you a better view of what people really think.

I am NOT associated w/this NL in any way shape or form and don't get a dime from them for any reason. I made this post because the author of this NL tried them and found they were less than fair. He said he doesn't use them anymore given their shenanigans (my word).

I also put it up here so you can show it to your clients. We have one client who is constantly called by the Yelpers to advertise w/them. They hint that if he would advertise his bad reviews would go away.

BTW, this newsletter is owned by a major financial publisher so I know a huge number of people have seen this write up.

Like I said, this is FYI!

Yeah, when I was called and refused, many positive reviews disappeared and more were filtered.

I came across the filtered reviews a few days ago. Would love to know why some reviews were filtered out. They seemed real.

The reason reviews are filter out is that Yelp has "reason" to believe they are not real. That reason may be they are positive and you didn't pay which sadly I have heard from not just nameless. It may be they all came in too fast as the ones of ours that got filtered. But I suspect the vast majority of reviews on Yelp that are positive get filtered unless that Yelp user is a regular that reviews multiple places.

Which come to think of it sounds like an interesting way to make some extra cash.

I tested that out with 5 accounts, rotated IPs, that left over 30 reviews each on different businesses. Certain listings STILL get filtered.

In the case I first noticed, not too fast, reviewers reviewed regularly, all but one were positive. Which would leave the one about yelp not getting paid.

Interesting way of making money, as you said.

A year or so ago I came across a post on another forum in which the poster talked about getting anyone rave reviews on certain review sites. If memory serves correctly his USP was that he was a __________ reviewer. I left the adjective blank because I can't remember what he called himself. To make a long story short, someone or someones are already doing it.

I also can't remember if he said Yelp or not. However, from what I gather about their tactics they probably were one of them.

Having reviews on these sites are all well good and serve as a good window dresser. The real benefit comes from having access to the reviewers social circle via whatever notification system the review site uses.
