Elegant Themes - Anyone used them?

Hey there, I have been searching for the right combo of good pricing and professional wordpress themes to use for the local business's that I am going to be servicing.

I came elegant themes, a theme site, and was wondering if anyone else has used them? Or if anyone has heard anything negative about them? They look like really clean (simple) designs, but I like the clean look....and their tools look good as well.

Thanks,
Shaun

I use them. As far as price you can not really go wrong and the actual themes are quite good quality.

I have used theme and they are some really nice themes. The drawback though is that whenever you cancel your yearly subscription you will not get anymore support or updates to the themes that you have downloaded.

Yes, I bought access to their themes last year. For the most part it's not a bad deal since you get so many themes for that one price (I think it's like $39 right now?). I have run into issues with some plugins not working on some themes but that could be due to the plugins rather than the theme. If you see several themes that you can use for your clients I'd say go for it.

I have used them before and they are pretty good for the most part and work with most plugins. As far as themes go they are cheap compared to the prices of their competitors.

But these themes are not the best there are, I prefer woothemes simply because they work better and look much nicer. But woothemes is also significantly more expensive.

I've used Elegant Themes for a while now and I would definitely recommend them. They have top notch forum support that will help you with issues and slight tweaks to the themes along the way.

Also check out Ink Themes. They have some really sharp responsive themes and they're affordable as well.

      Good Luck!

Yeah woothemes is great but @ $200 startup plus $25 p/m may not be a option for some. I use both but if your on a budget or just starting elegant will get you moving no worries.

Note price above is for the bees knees dev package because I need the .psds, but even the standard subscription @ $125 start up is pretty solid.

I have been using Elegant Themes since the first day of their inception and can't complain at all about their themes. For the price you can't get any better. They do have some themes that will have some minor issues depending on what plugins you use but for most part thats all. They are constantly coming out with new designs and maintain their nice looks. And as Matt B said...their forum support is top notch.

I really don't use any other themes other than theirs. I highly recommend them.

Elegant Themes are nice and great for starting out. After some time I started running into a few minor issues with some plugins and advanced features and tried a few WooThemes and now I am hooked. WT are a bit pricier, but a great option to consider if you are making a profit. In my experience, I can get a WT site up and running quite a bit faster than ET but overall have been very pleased with the ET purchased and published.

One main thing I don't like about ET is the branding and linkbacks inside the epanel.

Has anyone went to the lengths of removing the branding and linkbacks for client installs? ...or have you seen it as a non-issue with respect to clients seeing this.

To answer your question, a simple fix would be to use a plugin to hide access to certain menus. I'd recommend WordPress › Adminimize « WordPress Plugins to hide the 'themes' section, and any other sections you don't want your client to see.

In response to the main thread though,

I've been using Elegant Themes for almost 2 years now, and I would highly recommend buying a yearly subscription. They are perfect for niche type sites, if you are creating many of them (as they are easy to setup), as well as websites for small businesses or anything that doesn't require too much backend work.

I haven't come into any issue, really, besides some small coding problems that got resolved. They do have a support forum that will help you greatly, giving you the coding you need for what you want done, as long as its not too much customization. The response times do vary though depending on your issue and I guess who's available to help. I've had responses in 1 hour, and had responses 1 week later, it just depends. For the price though, you get what you pay for.

In the end, the $39 is very much worth it. You won't regret it!

I am thinking that won't fix the problem unless you can hide the whole epanel with adminimize if that is possible, is it?

Otherwise, for OP see Elegant Themes VS WooThemes - Which Is Better? - WPHub

Personally it seems to me that ET designs lend themselves better to local offline businesses than WT but I am just going by there demos.

Well, the only way to fully hide the epanel would be to use adminize and hide the entire 'theme' portion of the appearance module. Which, in my opinion, and what I personally do, shouldn't be a problem. If you are managing your clients site, even if they are using it as a full blown CMS, they still shouldn't need to access certain parts of the dashboard. Themes, Editor, Plugins... certain menus that can break a site if the wrong hands dabble with it. The best route to go, would be to make them a separate account, usually an Editor will suffice for their needs, and then also use adminize to hide and customize whatever else you want.

On a side note, you can also use this plugin: WordPress › White Label CMS « WordPress Plugins to fully whitelabel your dashboards, creating a full white label platform branded either your own, or personalize it for the company's branding depending on their needs. If you play around with them in conjunction, you can create a stellar designed platform, that will have barely any resemblance to wordpress. Besides, it also makes clients feel important. You'd be surprised by how much small business owners get a kick out of having their backend system branded to their business. It makes them feel like you developed and programmed a whole system for their brand. (I DO NOT agree with lying to clients, I don't tell them that is what I'm doing. I am 100% fully transparent. I'm just stating that based off of my experiences from their reactions.)

I wanted to say Thanks for everyone responding!!!! The feedback has been great, and I have made the plunge and signed up. The themes all look very clean, but I think the main issue I have had thus far with them is the very small logo/banner areas, some of my clients like to have the full page header/banner at the top, and it has been challenging incorporating that type into some of the features!

I've made a lead generation site out of an ET theme with a full banner across without having to touch any code. I just tweaked the image dimensions to make sure it fits and to see how it effects the menu layout. I'm sure if you know any coding you could get even more creative with it.

You need to edit CSS and header.php file to change the logo area size I had been using Elgantthemes since several years. These are good themes at a very good price. Only issue is if you have a blog, at the bottom of the search results, "Results not found" error message is annoying, which you can remove by editing one php file. My current website Shaadi | Shaadiconnections.com | Ratedesi is using ArtSee Eleganttheme.
If you want an HTML5 Responsive theme, I have it available for download at http://www.shaadiconnections.com/download

You need to edit a couple of php files to remove branding and backlinks. It is allowed.

They aren't bad. I still think some of their themes are too "clean" looking. But I've done about 7-8 websites for clients using their themes and my customers have been happy.

I'm new to the WP scene but so far my experience with ET is that you get answers to your questions pretty quickly, but sometimes I find their back end to be a little buggy. The themes however are great designs.

The only issue, I had with backend of Elegantthemes is logo upload in ePanel. Some of their themes returns errors. I always manually ftp the logo to an image directory and manually type the path to logo PNG file in the ePanel.

Have used Elegant Themes for several years. Find the Support Forum to be extremely helpful. Post your needs on the logo size or header and a link to your site and they'll tell you the code to add on your css to fix it. Can't get better than that for the minimal yearly fee.

I have used it for years.... forum is not bad, but as as long as you ask basic questions. The moment your question is a little advanced, moderators will pitch for custom work. The message is always same i.e. a cut and paste "this requires a lot of custom work. Please post at custom work forum. We will quote you a price...."
I asked once, which files should be edited to add a second sidebar in the Corporation theme. I received immediately the above response from a moderator. I replied next day that it does not require hiring a developer, and posted a how to do it.

I will not classify their support excellent. It is OK, as long as you ask basic questions.

Woo themes is not bad. They are also nice looking, but I found it too expensive, $200 + $25 per month, that is kind of expensive. I think, you can get similar looking at a cheaper cost elsewhere. I would rather go with Genesis Framework Pro (actually I do) instead of Woo Themes for the developers.

Elegant themes worked for me on more than 10 sites. The best thing is how flexible the platform is imo, very solid, though I wasn't doing anything too invasive. I would heed the advice of others and go with woo themes if you're looking for serious customization.
