Improving sales conversions and efficiency

Hey guys,

I'm currently sitting on a conversion rate of 1-2%, some days are great some days are bad but over the course of a month it averages out between those figures.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but don't most people convert 10% of there calls?

I sell web design, all marketing is completed through cold calling only, depending on how busy I am with the designs and meetings I make anywhere between 100-200 calls per day.

Also on the topic of efficiency do you guys not waste time with meeting with clients and do everything over the phone and email? Because i do spend quite a bit of time meeting with potential clients.

Thanks,
Sean

What do you mean by conversion?

If it is 1 - 2% of appts then you are doing something drastically wrong.

If it is 1- 2% from 100 dialled numbers then you are not doing anything wrong.

The former requires surgery, the latter is degrees of tweaking.

Hi Dan, I mean 1-2% of dialled numbers. I just always see guys here posting threads about there sales conversions being 10-20% of there calls is that even possible?

Well nothing is impossible but reality says that this would not be the case.

Lets say that you were Virgin. One of the most respected brands in the world.

And they decide to get into Business Internet Marketing.

Then they will run Ads on TV and send Direct Mail out by the bucket load and run Ads in Trade Mags and Newspapers like The Times and Telegraph Business Sections, sponsorship, PR etc etc

They would then segment their sales teams into Sole Traders, SME, Large Bus and Enterprise after at least 6 months of the above when practically every business knows they are entering the market and they are already well known.

So now when the rep cold calls saying 'Calling from VirginWeb &c' with a good strong offer to the correct target already worked out by the Marketing Dept then possibly they will get nearer the 10% conversion.

Maybe. (They wouldn't I already know)

Initially it would be but then it would drop very quickly to 5% or so and possibly stay there.

      So that is the possible.

The reality is that 99% of companies cold calling do not do so after well targeted Marketing for months (Artillery) and have such a respected brand for when the sales (ground troops) go in.

So your 1 - 2% from 100 calls is good.

      Hope that makes sense.

Are you only prospecting to targeted prospects?

How many times have you tested different parts of your script?
