Cold Walking: Postcard vs Brochure vs A4

I offer web design services and I am just wrapping up two jobs that had me busy for the last 2 months so I now need to get some new business coming in. My plan: do some local coldwalking into businesses that need my services.

I am just getting ready to do up some promo material and I am stuck on if I should do a full brochure outlining previous work, our prices, about the company, etc. OR just a nice flashy postcard that shows the website package I plan to offer and a couple selling points. OR a third option would be to do a full A4 page which would be along the lines of a postcard but more info.

I have done mailouts with postcards in the past with moderate success (1 call and sell from 600 mailers) - I say moderate because it was well worth the money I invested for the mailers to get the one client ($4k job).

So what are your experiences with cold walking? better to have a brochure or a flashy postcard/A4? (I'm leaning towards postcard..)

    Compelling flyer.
    Benefits, benefits, benefits....
It should give just enough to tease someone and make them call.

But, this should be a lesson to you as well as everyone else.
You should be continually prospecting to keep your pipeline full.
It is better to have a waiting list than not.
Otherwise you do work, then have to find work, then do work, then have to find work.
Unless you love yo-yo's..... keep your pipeline full.

I do recommend postcards. When designing postcard, you only want to give just much information to peak the curiosity of the prospective client. You do not want to give out too many details. You just want them to know enough to request more information which will give you the chance for a 1 on 1 with your prospective client. I think postcard will do just that.

This is a philosophy I definitely try to live by, but it gets hard when you have very limited time and too much work to do. For the future I am going to try to outsource more of my work to keep my time more available for new clients, just hard to find the right people - at the right price.

This is very good information, thanks. I am going to try and get the postcards finished for tomorrow then send them off to the printer. I will post the images of the postcards when I am done.

    Depends on my bank balance.

If it is LOW, I take a postcard and I sell that damned postcard, one call close.
Same with a brochure - one call close.
If you have anything in your hand, that's what you are selling.

If the bank balance is OK, then I make my calls empty-handed, asking about
their business, helping them find solutions. Keep filling the funnel.

When you carry a prop, you are looking for the guy who needs THAT.
You are showing the solution to see if it fits his needs.

When you don't, you are looking for the problem you can help solve.

    I like to do both.
