Interesting lead gen strategy....

Ok, so I found this interesting...

Saturday night my wife and I took our nephews to a haunted house in our hometown (Halloween is just a few days away)....

Anyway, my wife and I didn't go into the haunted house itself- we just sent the boys in and waited for them to come out the exit.

As it turned out, the haunted house was being put on by a local insurance agent...

Guess what, the agent (actually 2 of his representatives) had a tent set up near the exit of the haunted house where all the kids would be coming out....What were they doing in the tent? Giving away hot chocolate and GENERATING LEADS!

They were handing out some literature on life insurance and attempting to collect qualifying info (name, phone #, age, etc.) from people that seemed to be interested...

I have no idea how successful this was for them but I thought it was a unique, out of the box idea that could get them more business. At worst it helps to get their name out there/position themselves within the community.

I love out of the box ideas. What about you? Do you think they got any new clients from putting on a haunted house?

Sounds clever. I bet it worked for them. It doesn't take many leads for doing that to be successful/profitable. I think the psychology of it is smart: get them while they're scared!

I still don't like spending money on insurance...drives me nuts never getting to use it.

Yea, I thought it was pretty cool.

I'm all for unique, out of the box ways to spread the word the services that I offer...The thing with insurance, however, is that if they pick up just 1 new client from this then it was a success (assuming the lifetime value of an insurance client is higher than their operating costs for the haunted house)....

Demographics would seem to be pretty good.

Some of these "think out of the box" type events absolutely smash it!

Yep, it must be working cuz a local well known law firm is getting in on the halloween act by giving out glow sticks for trick-or-treaters.

I'm thinking the parents standing around (like yourself) waiting probably had no issue or pressure talking to the agents. It's always great not to feel like you are being propositioned especially around your kids on a fun night, where you're not expecting it. Makes people MUCH more open to talking!

It gives the parents something to do while the children enjoy themselves. If the offer the company provides is worth it it's a win-win.
