How Much to Charge a Radio Station

Anybody ever do a radio station website?

I'm thinking most of the companies that are really impressed with themselves would charge $5k plus.

I'm thinking $3k, or $5k but including ongoing updates for 12 months or something.

And, doing it in wordpress...why not, right? Makes the updating so easy and I think I can make it look really good.

Anyway, the real reason for the post was to see if anyone has done a site for a radio station, and what I could reasonably expect competitors to bid.

Oh yeah, I need so submit a bid. No biggie, going to do a sample site over the weekend to include with the bid...

Thanks for any feedback...

I'm doing a website for a private school/church/ministry and my bid is $3k and they had no problem with it. I did tell them a ball park price during our consultation and I asked them was that in their price range, so I left the meeting knowing I was in the proper range. If you don't ask you, you don't know and you're left playing the guessing game.

I stopped doing samples for anyone once I had a decent portfolio. My portfolio is my sample.

Work out a deal with them! You have the opportunity to get your name blasted on the airwaves.

I would barter some type of deal, if possible

That's actually a great idea. We did a series of spots for a local cable company and they couldn't pay us full rate so we took airtime in trade. If you do that sort of deal, make sure they don't stick your ads in off peak hours. That was an issue for us, they kept running our spots overnight because they wanted to get paid spots during daytime and prime time. We had to enforce our agreement to make sure they ran the spots when they said they would and to comp us when they didn't.

When you say "radio station", is this just a small local radio station or one of the big boys like Clear Channel?

        • Thanks for the feedback guys. It's a small market local station in a tourist market. They have 2 stations in town, and 1 of them already has a pretty crappy website. They have multiple domains, including a VERY brandable local domain that could really dominate the local market...not just for radio.

They know that there will be some cash upfront, and I will trade with them on either the balance of the cost, or get the cost to build upfront and give them a monthly quote for maintenance/updates moving forward, and have that be the trade in terms of advertising.

I'm already in with the GM, who is known by EVERYONE in this town, and he has already said he'd do on air testimonials and all of that kind of stuff.
