For those of you in the United States, know that tomorrow is election day. Now, my intention is not to get into a political debate here, but to ask you guys to take a step in the right direction when it comes to YOUR business..

GET OUT AND VOTE...

This is something that truly matters... if you're not in a battle ground state you might think your vote doesn't matter that much, but I can tell you that your vote definitely DOES matter and is important on a local level as well.

It is always wise to research your candidates to see which ones agree with your views and can better the situation for your business, or soon to be business.

Alderman, County Board, State representatives, Mayors, Governors, Senators, your President... It all matters and effects you. Do your homework and vote.

The results of your elections can maybe determine whether or not you will be able to afford employees, pay less or more taxes, etc. Do your research and get out there tomorrow.

I couldn't agree more. I think that this election is as important of an election as there has been in my voting life time. I have owned small brick and mortar businesses with employees and now work for myself. I could not see going back to my owning a small business and dealing with all of the new tax rules and regulations, health care, etc. I know many small business owners and work with others, and they are struggling.

But, I agree, I have my views and know who I am going to voter for, but whoever you choose to vote for, just get out and vote. It is important

People saying your vote counts is false.

Nobody has ever been able to show that a country election in any country around the world at any point in history that an election was decided by one vote.

    Facts don't match the talk.

    Not getting at you iamnameless,
just bringing it up as a general topic.

    Best,

      Perhaps,

However if there are millions of people with the same attitude, then what?

        Whatever the prevailing view point,
one vote hasn't won a country election, ever.

And you are going to bet against those odds?

This comment is utterly ridiculous. Of course the election will not be decided by 1 vote. But if thousands, or millions of people had your attitude, that could sway an election.

The opposing view is that "your" vote counts.

If it was true then the election is going to be decided by "my" vote.

Now if you take thousands who, for example, share the same view,
you mean the election is still going down to the wire of one vote?

            Now your argument looks silly.

Well, let's take your ridiculous argument to the extreme, what happens if EVERYONE follows your brilliant logic? Does that mean that no one votes and there isn't any winner. As I said, ridiculous.

Also, since the President is elected by the electoral college, each individual state has it's own individual election. Therefore, the numbers are shrunk down to the state level, so elections can be decided by a small number of votes. Look at the Bush/Gore election, it went all the way to the Supreme Court because it was decided by such a small number of votes. Remember the "hanging chads".

Yes, your vote does count. Go out and vote.

Thanks, Mr. Cynical. Your argument assumes that the phrase
your vote counts means that an election will turn on one vote.

It doesn't mean that at all but being from New Zealand
I wouldn't expect you to know how important that phrase
              is in American culture.

The only question in my mind is why you felt compelled
to argue such a trivial point. It's a bit silly, really.

Obviously you aren't who I was referring to as US offliners, as United States of America.

To correct your original statement, yes, one vote decided the election in Zanzibar, which was a country in 1961. It is now part of Tanzinia.

HOWEVER... we're not talking JUST on a national level. Here in the USA we have many elections, and MANY have been decided by a one vote margin. Voting for Alderman, City Council, County Board... these are your LOCAL elections, LOCAL, not NATIONAL effect you and your business DIRECTLY. Having an alderman/city council representative ON YOUR SIDE makes a HUMUNGOUS difference.

Here is a list of things decided by one vote..or so.

1645: 1 VOTE gave control of England to Oliver Cromwell
1649: 1 VOTE approved the beheading of Kings Charles I
1800: 1 VOTE made Thomas Jefferson president instead of Aaron Burr
1845: 1 VOTE brought Texas into the United States
1850: 1 VOTE admitted California and Oregon into the United States
1868: 1 VOTE saved President Andrew Johnson from Impeachment
1875: 1 VOTE ended the monarchy in France for a voting democracy
1876: 1 VOTE made Rutherford B. Hayes a United States President
1876: 1 VOTE elected the Indiana Electoral College member who voted for Hayes
1923: 1 VOTE placed Adolph Hitler as the leader of the Nazi Party
1941: 1 VOTE kept the military draft operational just weeks before Pearl Harbor
1992: 1 VOTE selected a member of the Town Council of Trinity, Alabama
1992: 1 VOTE decided the final member of the Selma, Alabama city council
Consider further how decisions that change history are determined by just a few votes:
1788: 3 VOTES ratified the U.S. Constitution in New York
1790: 2 VOTES ratified the U.S. Constitution in Rhode Island, making it approved in all 13 states
1960: 1 VOTE changed in each precinct would have defeated John Kennedy
1976: 1 VOTE changed in each Ohio precinct would have elected Gerald Ford and not Jimmy Carter
                  And, relevant to our times:
1993: 1 VOTE by Al Gore approved the largest tax increase in American history

Voting is not an obligation, in the USA it is a right.

ill explain why it doesn't matter at all - not because the vote don't count, but because its all the same bullwhip - same politicians, same lies, same strings behind the scene and only a public figure to show us, the public that we chose something ourselves..

nothing changes, same old rinse and repeat politics.

At the risk of being cynical.... Democracy in the true sense of the word ceased to exist decades ago..

Politicians DO NOT care what the voting public think, never have, never will..

All we are, wherever in the world we happen to be (US,UK etc) are millions of "Floating X's" just waiting to be told what to do..

What is the point of researching what each candidate stands for when they usually change their mind mid-term anyway?

Politics is now a "career" not a vocation for "these people" and they will get into bed with whoever and whatever will help them achieve their goals...

Nothing proves the point more than the fact that Obama and Romney will have spent almost $2 Billion...That's $2 BILLION to get elected/re-elected !!

All for a job that pays $400,000 a year!!

Now, does anyone really think that the powers-that-be behind the money behind the Candidates really care if you pay more or less tax or that you can afford to hire more employees - or if you die of cold or starvation??

Politicians will do whatever they want to and whenever they want to,whether its taking a country to war against the wishes of its "people" or taking the country into recession...

Corruption and Corporations rule...sad but true!

''Elections are decided by the votes of the uneducated many for the corrupt few.'' GBS

By the way, in England during the 1831 General Election out of 406 elected Members of Parliament 152 were chosen by electorates of fewer than 100 voters so 1 vote did make a difference.

eg Old Sarum, Wilts had 3 houses and 7 voters and 2 MPs.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. While you may not like either major candidate running for President, there are vast differences in their positions and policies. I agree that the President is more of a "figure head" than an original thinker, but if you really believe that an Obama or Romney administrations wouldn't differ, than you haven't done any research into the candidates or you just don't understand their positions.

You also don't take into effect the other elections that are going on at the same time, state, county, and city government that can have more of an effect on an individual voter. And one more very important piece of these election puzzle, there are, more than likely, at least 2 seats on the Supreme Court that will be filled this President. The Supreme Court has a huge effect on what happens long-term in this country, and just one Justice has major effect.

Please people, it is a little late right now, but educate yourself and vote.

Actually, they don't always get two terms as you so eloquently stated above.

To your second point about specific ineptitude getting people killed, just one work, Benghazi.

I don't get my voting rights back till 2014. So I'll be voting for the first time in my life in 2016. Its a long story. Got in some trouble when I was 19 and lost my voting privelages for a while. Plus the lines around here are like 3 hours long. I'll definitely vote on the next election.

I was born and raised here in the USA (a Republic not a Democracy) and voting is a privilege. It is not a Right (nowhere in our Constitution) but exercising that privilege can bring about great changes in our country and the world. Every election is decided by those who show up and vote, never by those who do not.
    (my two cents)
