My First Upsell, 100% closing rate - Yeeeow!

Just got my first upsell of a mobile website for £50 upfront, and then £12.95 per month recurring!!!

1 out of 1 so far!!!

Just to provide a little bit of information about how I did it. Basically I had a client wanting to go ahead and get a website. During the normal process where I gather address, etc for the purpose of creating an invoice, I casually ask "by the way, are you aware that 40-50% of your clients will be looking for you via either a mobile phone or tablet device?" he says he realizes that a lot of people use mobile phones, etc. I then just tell him the cost, and ask if he would like me to add this cost to his existing invoice.

Pretty simple, well known stuff really, but hey, I just created a before non existent recurring income from this client, and doubled my up front profit. Hell pleased!!

      I think the reason I only felt comfortable charging a low price, is because the initial hook was for a very cheap website, which is what I'm doing in order to "get them in the door" and build up a big client base. As i was discussing in another thread, I'd rather have lots of small clients and get all the referral business, than miss out on them and only have a small number of bigger clients.

      It's just my thinking in this economy, I see a large client base as more secure, and in the long run probably more lucrative aswell. Maybe I'm wrong...

      Out of curiousity, what's your recurring for these $700 mobile sites, and what does the recurring get them?
