Wordpress v Weebly for Customers Wanting to Update Their Own Sites

Hi guys,
I've recently built 2 websites using WP themes for clients, and both are now finding they are in over their heads with doing simple Blog updates despite telling me beforehand that they were "reasonably competent" with "that sort of stuff".

While I have sent them WP training videos and even offered some free assistance, it's now at the point that these customers are costing me time and money.

Lesson learnt.

For customers that want to update their own sites after you've built it for them, do you build it in Weebly, Wix etc?

Thanks for your advice,
Dan

I don't offer it either but Weebly is a much simpler platform than Wordpress IMO

      Hi Dan,

You could try this, I do this to get over the confusion for customers and have found it works well as it gets rid of all the distractions....

Install AG Custom Admin (WordPress › AG Custom Admin « WordPress Plugins) plugin. Make sure you tick the box at the very top left of the AG Custom Admin Setting s which says "Do not apply these settings for Admin" and then set about turning everything off.

With most of my installs I actually turn the lot off I.E. all the Wordpress menu's and create "New Menu Items" in the "Admin Menu" section at the bottom by copying and pasting the links to the only items the customers need to use.

In most cases you can leave them with less than half a dozen menu items and you can name them in a familiar way like "Write a post" instead of them having to go through the default menus to find "Add New" and getting lost.

You can give them different levels so if they really need to get to the full menus they can log out and back in to change what they see.

If you want any help setting it up or trying it out let me know.

Hope it may help your situation.

      All the best..
