How to get clients (resource)

Hey warriors,

I wanted to put together a list of places and methods to get clients for whatever service you may offer. Hopefully it will give some of us new ideas and a chance to break out of the norm and try something new. I'll get it started... let's see how many we can get!
  • Cold calling
  • Email (warm & cold)
  • Visiting businesses in person
  • LinkedIn.com
  • Manta.com
  • Craigslist (i haven't really figured out how to use it to get clients yet tho)
  • Direct mail
  • Chamber of commerce
  • Handing out flyers at events
  • Referrals
#clients #resource

Those are all very powerful methods. Many people are using direct mail specifically since it doesn't require cold calling and you can get the clients to call you. You have a wonderful list. Emails are definitely the easiest and the cheapest to go, but it takes work to succeed and land a client.

I personally do believe that the service which you use is just as important!

I know that's what i'm talking about. List some social media networks or way to generate sales using search. Add to the list! Tell us how you would do it.

The whole point of this post is to expand out knowledge of marketing. I've used almost all the methods i've listed and I want to see what is working for others.

Referrals. The majority of my new clients came by way of referrals, but you have to ask for them. Don't automatically assume that your current clients will refer your services. Ask them, and be nice about it. Some of them won't but many will, i.e., if your service is great.

    Got a few more tactics.

Direct mail with personalize letters in an envelope along with a "stuffer"
Qr codes (can anyone add how specific ways to use them to get clients?)

This works great, I can tell you from experience. Throw a couple of dice in there as well... This has two effects...
1.) They open the package to see what hard gift you have given them and...
2.) They remember you, because after all, it is not every day you are given a set of dice.

      =)

Trade show web sites are also a great source. Most trade shows have exhibitor lists on their site that tell you the company's contact information, and if you're really lucky the list will have a contact name as well.

As per my suggestion, getting a new client is one of the biggest problem for any business organisation set up.There are several ways that can ultimately help you to get some clients such as try out some new marketing technique, launch or offer a new product to them, launch a PR campaign, ask for referrals, smile and dial and get social networking.

    Hope this may work..

Look at the market first and foremost and then consider which method will work best. They are great individually but do you have the time/knowledge to do them all simultaneously.

The methods that can be scaleable and for the most part automated are the ones I try to master. However, I have to say referrals are best but unfortunately not a predictable means of growth.

Add to the list: Facebook, classified ads in sites such as Gumtree and Craigslist.
Email everyone you know and briefly explain what you do and ask if they know anyone wanting to make money.
Ask your clients for referrals at every opportunity.
    Niche forums.
    Niche email groups.
    Your own blog newsletter.

I will keep thinking of other ideas.
Email old clients to see if they have further needs for your services.

Use real business cards and hand them out to anyone you know or come across during your travels on a daily basis.

I find I get a lot of work through this site too.

All the ideas you have mentioned and what others have mentioned are good, but I would like to add a twist in regards to asking for referrals. When you ask for referrals, tell people you will pay them an incentive if a client they refer to you signs up with you. Say like 10%-15% of the total contract, or (a set amount of your choosing). By doing it this way you will get past clients advertising for you like crazy, and should have no more problems in attracting leads.

To me, getting clients is like war. If you don't succeed, you die. =]

Your content would be the bullets. You ability to deliver that content would be the gun. So the bigger the gun you have, and the more powerful the bullets, the more business you will get.

I seriously try to incorporate this twisted mentality in everything I do. I do not put out content if I think my "bullets are weak". And I don't load those bullets in my gun then aim in the wrong direction.

Like on youtube. I treated youtube like war. I did the same exact thing with craigslist. I refused to give up, untill I reached my target. Say my target was 10 clients a week. I would load and shoot repeatedly untill I reached that target. For youtube, every 1 keyword I had, I'd rank 3 videos for that keyword on page 1 of youtube. Its not enough for me to have 1 of anything. If my competitors had 1,000 views on their videos, I'd aim for 10,000 views. If they had 10,000 views (which fortunately is rare in my niche), I'd aim for 100,000 views (with the help of fiver, and yes, I've spent lots of money on fiver but its been more than worth it).

Then I'd train someone else how to use the gun, or find software that made the gun shoot quicker (if that makes any sense).

But seriously. Getting clients is war. So treat it like war. Find what your competitors are doing, then do it better. Even if you don't have the money they have, just use better strategies. Better copy. Better offers. Better rapport with the marketplace. If their ads take 1 hour to create, spend 4 hours on yours. Outdo everything. Become obsessive. Noone can compete against you. You are a warrior. You crush people for a living. All the money in this world, belongs to you. Never forget that.

    /end narcissitic rant
