VOIP/Business phone setup?

Hello Warriors,

I have a few questions to setup my phone system for my business.

I'm Canadian but I spend a good amount of time in Thailand, I might be staying here for anothe 6-8 months before I go back home.

Right now I have a toll free number thats just forwarded to my Thai number, but I want to start doing cold calling and training myself a bit so when I get back to Canada I will have some experiene to put together a team in my office.

Being on the phone all day long distance could get pricey, so I was wondering how VOIP systems work, is the call clear? Do I have other options?

Also can I tie my toll free number into my voip system for incoming and outgoing?

Thanks,

Eric

You can forward your toll-free number to any number you choose, obviously.

If you want to make outgoing calls with your 800 number showing on the recipient's caller-id, then you'll need to invest in an Asterisk system, which is not really a big investment. Asterisk is an open-source VOIP system. You don't pay for the system but you would need to hire someone (freelancer/elance/guru) to set it up for you. That's not expensive, we did it a few years ago and it cost us $250.00. We used our computers to make the calls by using a softphone and we could make the caller-id of the recipient show anything we wanted it to.

Another example of a system such as this is: PBX in a Flash

I think that's your easiest option. You could probably build the whole system into a cheap light laptop. We used an old p-4 desktop (small form) to run our system, but that's a little heavy for international travel.

If this isn't making any sense, let me know and I'll try to explain it better.
