Obama Third Term Ad: Brilliant great use of radio (offline) + online

Heard Stansberry's crazy effective radio spot

"Obama's Third Term"

It aired on a large FM Talk station (:60) in my area, and
drove people to:

Stansberry's Investment Advisory

The landing page is a VSL that's a case study in direct response.

Close the page and there's a OTO and DSO that appear also.

Warriors, this isn't fancy graphics and heavy images, but study
how GOOD the copy is.

    Interesting and targeted message.

Bit long for my tastes but not sure how the targeted audience would react.

It is very hard to assess an ad like this with an unbiased point of view.

I can imagine it would fire up and already smoldering conservative target
market. It seems like it is overkill by continually pressing. Too much of this
can backfire on an ad... I'd love to see the results of the piece.

Brilliant. Assuming this was produced before the election, he had a little better than a 50/50 shot at being right about the election. This is now proof that his predictions come true. And if he was wrong, the page simply goes down.

Stansberry is appealing to the best investor audience; Right leaning (I'm trying to not get this post deleted) older white men, and nobody else. But the video hits on several emotional triggers and keeps the viewer angry and impressed.

And for us selling offline services, this can be a template for what we sell.
I don't know if you all know this, but nearly all small business owners are very conservative, and many (in fact nearly all I know) are angry older white men.

From a marketing point of view, highly adaptable video to use in our business.

Personally, I don't have the stomach for it, but everything is there...to make a powerful appeal to small business owners...to buy just about anything.

Notice the predictions (except for the past election) all happen a few years down the road? Very smart. Always predict far enough in the future, after your subscribers have been used to your newsletter.

Gambling sports advice Gurus (I don't know what they are really called) use a similar technique. They predict a sports game outcome, and if they are correct, they now have proof that they have insider information. If they are wrong, they simply ignore the fact, and try again.

Brilliant segmenting, creating controversy, taking credit for past outcomes, and hitting on fears the target market has.

"This video was made before the election, but I know the outcome". Absolute Genius.

Years ago, Jeff Paul had an ad on making money in mail order. He talked about the Clintons and positioned buying his course as a form of protest against the Clintons. That little paragraph doubled his sales. He knew his market. Very smart.

I hope this thread doesn't get deleted. There are incredible marketing lessons here.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Look up "The End of America" and check out the results as that should give you an idea of how well this kind of VSL can do.

Stansberry and Associates have long been known for their hype and let's just say exaggeration. If you want to decipher any of his BS, go to stockgumshoe.com and put the title of Stansberry's latest piece of hype in the site's search box and Travis will explain it.

As for the quality of their ad copy, well, that leaves a lot to be argued. It is almost always very long and if you listen or read it you can catch contradictions. In fact, his entire empire is one contradictory NL after another.

In one he tells you to get out of the market while in another he tells you why you should be in the market.

Truth is, he makes up quite a bit of stuff. Some people on this forum would frown on the way he over extends his publisher's license.

I subscribe to one that is $5 a month. That is all this group of hypesters is worth IMHO.

Since becoming a member I have made a few hundred dollars off a particular stock they detailed. Interestingly enough it was off the stock's options and not the stock itself.

If you know how to cross check what S&A puts out and you aren't afraid of options, you can usually make a few bucks. That is how I made the moola off one of their recommendations.

Another guy who writes decent copy is Bernie Schaeffer. He is a guru in the options arena and has made a very handsome living off his numerous publications. Don't limit yourself to S&A. Look at Cabot Wealth also. Lutts does a good job of writing as well.

I think I just overstayed my welcome but had to put in my 2¢...

Or is it just *good* direct response marketing?

Exactly. Or the fact that hype sells... more so in that market.

We should not focus on the company or whether it is bs. Let's look
at it as a pure marketing piece. Does anyone feel a hardcore
conservative would not be livid after they watched that?

Would those people then feel endeared to the company that
'alerted' them of this devious plot? In a sense they would
bond with them. Could be VERY powerful.

Yeah, if you think bullshit is *good* response marketing. You can put a dress and lipstick on any pig and have a *good* looking pig.

Only my opinion since I follow them for my stated above reason. Follow them long enough and you know what they will say in the next paragraph. That isn't *good* response marketing.

        Again, only my opinion.

I too saw the ad on Drudge. No doubt that the caption caught the attention of those of us who did not like the results from the recent election.

Smart marketing on their behalf. However, I did not listen to the full audio.
