Howdy Oh Experienced Ones...

What is the quick and dirty on accepting checks for offline services? If I can summarize what I think I know...

1) you need a check writing service from the web, it appears there are many
2) get routing and account number from your customer...anything else you need, like name on check or anything?

Now, it's where it gets fuzzy. How do you get authorization 'for deposit only'?
Can you just print the checks right on your regular ol copier paper and take them to your bank for deposit? Is check stock necessary?
Are there any electronic check payment processors that any of you are using, so you don't need to print?

Gracias in advance

I use EZcheckprinting... got it for free with a subscription on stamps.com then canceled the subscription.

Account number, routing, name on the account, account holder address, check number... whatever THEY have on the front of the check, I ask for.

If you use an ACH service to process checks, you're not taking advantage of the reason to process checks! Print it yourself and you will be better off and have less regulations

In the signature area, I put in with the software "This check is authorized by your depositor, No Signature Required"

I'm sure you could do it with regular paper, but I use check stock. You also should use a laser printer. Many banks no longer use the old micr scanners, they use opticals so you won't have the problem except in certain areas with small time banks.

Do you print checks every month for any recurring payments?

I am wondering that too, but would assume so. I really need to change over to doing this. Iamnameless and I Skpyed about it 6 months ago and I am still running cards.

        Yeah, basically..

For some reason, that is a deterrent for people, however... lets think about that. If your time becomes so occupied with printing checks.. that is a good problem to have. You can then have someone else hired to print checks for you 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.

For me, it takes about 15-30 seconds to print out a check of an existing client. I don't mind being able to print money lol. I enjoy it quite a bit.

Now lets look at another scenario...

Are you charging monthly for maintenance and hosting? Get them to pay a year in advance. I do with almost everyone, and I will also give them an incentive to pay a year in advance. For example, $35/mo hosting/maintenance I'll give it to them for 350/year.

This works with SEO, and reputation management, and other monthly services. You can offer an incentive for when they pay in advance.. it could be 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, whatever. You set the rules and the standards. If you have the confidence and portray these options as normal.. your client will see it as normal and not a big deal either.

So... monthly services you can either print out the checks monthly, or get them to sign up for X amount of time for an incentive.
