The lady that started PostcardMania has come out with an interesting way to track postcard effectiveness she calls Direct Mail 2.0. Every postcard has a phone number. When someone calls in, the software tracks the call. You can then login to the system and see the stats. Plus the calls get recorded so you can review how your team is handling them.

Has this been done before? I don't have any connection to them but it's worth looking at--you may get some ideas on how to set up your own system.

It's pretty simple to set up if you want to run your own style campaign.

1.Just get a phone number from callfire for number tracking

2.Then set up a google adwords remarketing campaign

    3. Add the code to the landing page you are using for your postcard campaign.

    4.Track results

    Pretty simple

    The amazing part of this?

That setting up a specific number for tracking specific ads is revolutionary enough that she can market it as DirectMail 2.0. This is marketing 101 but since so many business owners don't get it you can comes off like a genius to them.

You should always have a way to track anything. Coupons are a way many businesses use to track. You didn't just think they were there to give a discount to customers?

But back to the main point any time one of your calls to action is a phone number you should set up a seperate number for tracking. Just as every website call to action should be trackable (multiple ways) and every walk in (coupons, etc) should be trackable.

Whenever possible (is it ever not possible?) you should track every call to action on every kind of advertising you use.

when i first heard of it... which means... it must be even older.

It's all about positioning. A LOT of businesses are relatively clueless
over this subject. Pretty smart to make the old new if you ask me

Hey guys, just to clarify... DirectMail2.0 isn't just call tracking with direct mail. It also integrates mail tracking and Google Remarketing. Involving both online and offline marketing channels.
