Where To Leave Business Cards?

I am just starting up an offline business offering services of web design, logo design and business cards. I have just got my own business cards and trying to think of the best place to leave them/hand them out. My target audience is small business owners. I have done a few jobs already so I will give some cards to these clients.

Where else would be the best places to leave cards that will reach small business owners?

Business owners need and buy the same type of services everyone else does.

They get their hair done & cut so I'd try to get some in the hands of salon owners and barbers. They also have health needs too so try to leave some at doctor's offices, chiropractors, dentists, etc.

Basically anywhere that services the person behind the business.

Walk into the business owner's office, introduce yourself, hand him your card and a flyer describing your service's benefits, and ask him for an 10 minute appointment to show him what you do to help businesses like his increase profits via the web.

Don't spam your card all over eternity -- just go see your prospects in person, ice cold.

Referral groups like BNI and RLI are wonderful. You get a chance to hand out your business cards even as a guest. Arrive 15-20 minutes early and just talk to people. These people are basically your target market! Attend as many meetings of this type as you can. In any area there is bound to be several BNI chapters. In large metropolitan areas, even more. For example in my area (Houston TX) there are I think over 30 chapters. I have visited a majority of them. You can attend all of them as a guest and hand out your business card to hundreds of potential clients. Remember to differentiate yourself as MOST of these chapters already have web designers. Call yourself a marketer or something else so the web guys don't have a problem with you there.

Of course, there are also tons of other networking groups out there. Try to find them on meetup.com. Search for terms like "small business", "networking", etc.

I'd second Sherry's post, and really give a nod to Meetup groups. There are tons & tons of free business networking Meetup groups just about everywhere and unlike Chambers and other groups that tend to have rigid rules, the Meetups give a lot of opportunity to self promote and hand out any kind of promotional materials you want.

Your "30-second commercial" shouldn't say that you're a web designer, but rather that you specialize in building websites that generate leads for business

Why not go to business networking events and hand them out to other business owners, and also build lasting connections.

  • Some small businesses have bulletins ask to post them up on there board

    if not

simply introduce your self & hand them your card.

When i market in local market I generally hire a person to go to door to door and distribute a page which displays my add and steple my business card with it. It really works sometimes for your business.

Whenever you go to lunch! Many restaurants leave out a fishbowl and collect business cards. I have had a few marketing requests from those restaurant owners!
