Calling from Canada to the U.S.

Hello Warriors,

I tried searching for this but could not find anything on the forum. I am trying to find a good plan for cold calling to numbers in the US. I live in Toronto, Canada so it will be long distance.

I have looked into Skype but it seems like making multiple calls for commercial purposes is against their fair use policy (yes, I read the footnotes)

I understand that Google voice is not available in Canada yet.

Any ideas?

Have you ever thought about using a DTA box. This allows you to call USA, PoertoRico, London, British Colombia and 75 other countries around the world. Also you will be able to call domestic. This what i use and whenever i travel overseas i take it with me and it works the same with the same number

    Hi Stranger,

I have been doing the same research and after reading multiple posts, and reviews on various VOIP companies...I just went with a standard landline and LD package from Telus.

I think you have Bell offered out east so you can always price compare.

For business purposes I just found to many reviews regarding the unreliability of VOIP and that last thing you would want is to have bad connection, because you bandwidth is being stretched to the max.

I know many here use VOIP but it just wasn't worth the risk.

Of course now I have to write my script...make a call list and get to work.

    Best of luck
    Adrian

Thanks Annie. I never thought of that, but am not sure if I will yet. I plan on just doing this for a few hours after I come home from work.

Thanks Adrian. I think that's the best option for me. I just called Fido and they have a $30 addon for North American long distance. I have free evenings starting at 5, so I won't have to pay anything in addition to the $30 addon.

Dude, my brother just got a plan with Wind mobile for $40/month with unlimited free long distance to the US.

He has a ton of friends down there because he used to work down there for about 8 years.

Anyway, he's had it for about 4 months now and just loves it.

Oh, and that is a pre-paid plan (not pay as you go)

Ok I guess I better explain if you don't know the difference between Pay as you Go and a pre-paid plan

Pay as you go is where you would pay $30, but that $30 could last you 2 or 3 days or 30 days depending on how much you use it.

A Pre-paid plan is where my brother pays $40 at the begining of each month and that lasts him the whole month until he pays again the next month. So it is a set amount each month for the whole month and you can use it as much as you wants.

Check them out. They are in Toronto

Before going with Wind Mobile, as another has suggested, check their coverage maps. I live right in Calgary and have had trouble with intermittent service at best.

For all the people using Google Voice, I thought they were not available for Canadians. So living in Toronto, I can get a google voice number and make calls to the US?
