I have a client that works from home, wants to claim his Google Plus Local Page but with no address showing.

I know that you can input a home address and unchecked the box resulting in no address being shown, you can also choose the service area.

This client also has a UPS box, if I remember correctly it is against the rules to use a UPS box, is this correct?

If we use his home address, hide the address and select a service area, would we have a hard time ranking for certain keywords because of this (keywords are easy - med difficulty)?

There is another option, they rent shared studio space downtown but may be changing studios in the next year. If we set up the page with the downtown studios address, then change the address, will this affect rankings?

Thanks

There have been a couple of WSOs on the subject of Google +. I'm not an expert in it myself, but this WSO came out recently claiming to be a bible of sorts...

    1. UPS Boxes are a no-no. Correct.

    2. You can hide your address in your listing and even in some 3rd party listings like Yahoo!. This will make it more difficult to rank since you'll have fewer citations, but for a easy-med niche, you may be okay if the website is strong.

Personally, I would go with the studio space, get tons of citations and try and rank well asap. When they move, they can change around all their citations (keep the login creds for all accounts) and then change their website before changing the listing. All of that should be done within a few days. You don't want the new citations to sit there for long or else you run the risk of duplicates popping up.

If the client won't be moving for another year, you have plenty of time to rank and benefit from rankings right now. No need to wait.

If the client decides to go the house number route, definitely hide the address, get as many business listings without the address as possible, get as many local directory submissions / classified ads as possible, geo-tag the website and optimize the heck out of it with authorship, etc. You can also use photos and videos and geotag them and embed them in the website. Google can read these geotags and it will not be so obvious to web surfers.

Don't forget to use a KML file and Google webmaster tools.

    Hope that helps.
