What's The Point Of #1 On Google If You Don't Get Clients?

I'm a video girl! I create videos for others.

I'm stuck on a point. Could use some insight.

I have ranked several videos for my clients. I keep checking back with them to see if they got clients from it they say NO. I know they aren't the best measure as they probably don't ask how you found me.

But I know from my own page 1 videos on Google, I haven't gotten a client. 1 single client.

So what is another selling point for video?

I can't promise (or allude to) more business (with a good conscience).

What else can I promise? What are y'all saying to get others to invest in Video. Number 1 on Google ain't it.

Thanks in advance. I'm getting close.

Honestly getting an actual client depends on many factors that are impossible to figure out from your post. Things like "what keywords are you targeting, how many exact searches per month in both google and youtube and also are they buyer keywords" are just some of the questions I'd ask. Also the actual video comes into play, is there a clear cut call to action for your viewers? Are there any links in the description leading back to your customers site and is your customers site setup to generate leads properly with a large, bold font phone number, a contact form and a call to action as well? Tracking the phone # that should be in the title of the video is also important as I've had lead gen clients who didnt answer half the calls I sent so they wasted potential revenue of mine. Properly vetted clients, proper funnels and proper tracking are the only ways to avoid the failures you are experiencing.

    Hope that helps some.

Are the search phrases ones people use when they are looking to buy something?
Is there a call to action that says "Mention you saw this video and get a free___"?

How many views are you getting per month?
      Are the views only local?

I use videos that sell. I get an additional $3,000-$6,000 a month in high profit retail sales each month from my videos. They are promoting products I sell at my retail store.

But the videos have to sell. They have to make people want to buy something. Most videos don't do that.

      Of course, there are plenty of other reasons to have highly ranked videos;
To create trust because the client is on the first page multiple times.
To move competitors off the first page.
To help a sales letter, website, blog by supporting the sales message.
Helping to keep customers from cancelling when they go online after buying something.
To create minor celebrity for the person in the video.
To help build a brand name.

But some videos sell. That's why video sales pages are popular.

And video is just a format. It's like saying "Books don't teach chemistry".
When you have read 6 random books... none about chemistry.
Sales videos sell. Most videos don't.

In my service I sell to businesses, I create sales videos for them. Sometimes they have their own professionally made videos that they want me to get ranked. So I do... And the videos generate no sales.

Why? Because they are not sales videos. They are "branding" videos.

I had a client show me an "infomercial" that he had created. It cost him close to $100,000 to have it made. I watched it and told him
      "This doesn't sell anything."

He was livid. He said "I'll have you know that the man who produced this is a genius! He worked on the movie Open Range with Kevin Costner"

I said "That means he knows how to use a camera and set up great scenes. The editing is great too. But he doesn't know how to sell. This informercial will make no sales."

Of course he spent another $130,000 in investors money in advertising without a single sale. He would have kept going, but his investor pulled the plug.

So now he's stuck with this video he wants me to put on Youtube and get ranked on Google. I told him to give me $2,000 and 30 days, and it would be on page one for his search phrase. It's #1 with over a million search results for that phrase. Two months later, still no sales.

Why? Because the videos doesn't sell anything. There is no offer.

I would love to give a link to it, but it might get back to him.

Chances you saw it late at night a time or two about 6 years ago. It sells a water purifier. No, if you guess, I won't tell you.

Missmiss: You may also have unrealistic expectations. I get $3-6 thousand a month from over 100 highly ranked videos in total. That averages out to only $30-$60 a month from each.

    MissMiss:

You need your own tracking number in each video.
This way you know if they are getting calls.

As Claude stated, they also have to be setup the right way to make the phone ring.
From the listing to the video.
I can vouch for the fact that people call without watching.

If you have been around you have seen the videos. Offline Video Assassin?
Anyway, I ranked them. They are targeting businesses talking about how I can help.
I get calls for the services, from customers, not the business owners.
Just because it says Plumbing Contractor, doesn't mean it's a plumber.
Watch the video first, then call...

Without a tracking phone number, and looking at the views, you really can't say one way or another if it helped them. You can get a tracking number from Twillio and also get the recordings.

Why invest in video? There is an infographic somewhere in the WSO section with some good stats. But, it can be used very nicely as part of your overall domination strategy.
The videos can take up a competitors spot on the first page, and help drive traffic to the site.

Thank you all. That makes complete sense.

The videos I've done have been "branding" videos. I'm going to create some new videos.

I'm the same way. What I do is pretend that I'm a client. I ask myself all of the questions I would ask a client and take notes and give myself a deadline like I'm a client and then produce the video in the same steps. Script, storyboard, rough cut, final cut. I pass each step around to a few friends to get feedback before moving on to the next step. Designing for yourself is always harder. It amazed me when I found out that some major design shops will hire other design shops they respect and are friends with to do their websites/videos. Some times you can be too close to the material to make an accurate judgement. Good luck.

    Hi missmiss,

You don't expand on whether your page with the video is a sales-generating page - do you have an opt-in or special phone number associated with that video where you can track (as vndnbrgj pointed out) whether or not your videos ARE in fact producing sales?

For my own retail store, just go to Youtube and search for Sweeperstore. That's my user name (one of them anyway). You'll see several videos from my retail store. These videos sell, and bring people into my store to buy.

I shot most of them on a Flip camera, and uploaded them, unedited to Youtube.

Here is one I use for one of my websites.

If I owned a graphic arts company, I would pay more attention to how they look. I have lots of other videos, but you'll get the idea.

For clients that I sell at conventions out of my area, I use animated videos I create on Goanimate.
You can see some examples by going on Youtube and searching for "Vacuum cleaners Doylestown PA" The animated videos are all mine.

Animated videos are not ideal, but if I can't do the videos live, they grab attention on Google searches.

Animoto videos? No, but I use that type of video to create links to my main videos.

Here is a video that sells something I sell online as well as in my store.

I'm going to say it depends on what you want the video to accomplish AND what works with your desired market. I'm a wedding photographer, I don't seek the budget bride. So I use videos to drive traffic to my site, not to sell. This is because my desired market is repelled by any hint of sales. She runs off in the other direction at the slightest whiff. This is because she wants to feel a connection first and is suspect of anyone selling. The budget bride may be okay with a "here's what you get, why pay more elsewhere?" approach, but they're also the ones who are okay with being assigned a photographer rather than having a bond with that photographer. So your goal depends on your market's pyschographics. Make sense?

Here's one of mine. Right now, if you search youtube for "nyc wedding photographer" I'm the first organic result. Hey, that's exactly what my mom said about me when I was born too.

I certainly can't fault your logic.
To Missmiss; If your client calls their customers ...customers, my approach is probably better. If your client calls his customers ...clients, then the "Build trust, a relationship, and then they buy" approach works better.

      Me? I sell stuff.

But I treat my local online marketing clients a bit different. With them, I'm more education based in my marketing.

Video is often most effective when used as part of a sales process.

In other words perhaps sharing some valuable information with a
prospect who is already on a site then leading them to the conclusion
that they should take the next step in your sales process (maybe
calling or emailing the business for a consultation or quote or joining
an email list for more valuable information).

The key is to think through who is arriving at your video and
designing it to cater to their needs and desires and to move them
to the next step in the sales process.

        Kindest regards,

You should buy the WSO Rocket Video Ranker 2. It outlines the way to link videos together.

The cheap Animoto style videos I sometimes upload as "Unlisted". The links still work, but they won't show up in searches. I drive links to the cheap videos as well as the "Money videos". And use Vagex to boost views on all of them.

The linking strategy is one of the most powerful idea. But you should get the Video Ranker 2 deal to get the full details. I'm not an affiliate, and the method is not exactly according to Youtube's terms of service, so I'd rather you learn the complete method from them.

I also comment on related high PR Youtube videos. A few a day for a couple of weeks is enough. The internal linking is very powerful in Youtube. And every comment left on a Youtube video is a Dofollow link to your Channel.
I hope you use these ideas. Very useful.

many SEOs focusing on improving the rankings and how to drive more traffic. Only few SEOs care about conversions from that traffic.
there is no unique advice for this problem. like everything, you need to test, test, test...and again, to test.

Most of the answers here focus on CONVERSION rate of the
video itself, which is obviously a proven way to go.

But given that you aren't generate much sales from the video
itself, what you can is to use the fact that it ranks at the

MisterMe you are #4 in video results (broad) and #1 for (exact). But I'm in NYC. Love your work!

This thread helped me to realize that my artistically pleasing videos may not be the best for generating sales. My videos are more soft sell videos. I'm testing a 30 second hard sell and a 2 minute soft sell video. We'll see.

But I STRUGGLE selling my video services because I don't believe my promise to business owners. And you know the worst salesperson is one who doesn't believe in their product.

So now I'm trying to find a claim that I can really believe in. Telling business owners they are going to get clients from video doesn't feel right. Especially since that hasn't been my experience so far. There's way more involved than just ranking a video.

But I think I found one that I believe in. (I'm such a girl right;-).
