Anyone make a sale this week or are you all settling down for awhile?

I'm curious if this is a really bad time to contact local businesses and go into meetings and get paid.

Or will they appreciate the new year marketing opportunities, and a little Christmas special discount sprinkled on?

Does the sun rise every morning?

Lady Luck's on my side with the 7 or 8 life insurance referrals I'm working this week.

Can't complain about that when December's typically the tougher of months to close life insurance deals.

Keep moving forward, don't stop just because of christmas.

The contacts you make today, tomorrow or friday might not buy from you, but they will be your followup calls on the 27th, 28th, 29th, etc.

Even then if you keep moving forward you never know you could make a sale tomorrow or friday that could turn into a long term customer that stays with you for years.

Probably the only times I would call or walk into a business would be the 24th to the 26th.

But before that and after that is free game.

Anyone who observes Christmas but who's looking to talk to you at this time is probably serious about buying. And then there's the rest of the world that doesn't observe Christmas.

I signed 3 new offline clients this week (site rental/lead gen), still seems business as usual. I am taking off Friday until after Christmas though.

I am still getting work from current and new clients. Writing and proofreading are always necessary and the wise people are taking advantage of that fact. Some are asking for articles now so they can preset the publish date. I am open to any work offers right through this period.

Guy! It is only a few more days until the 2013 price increases! It's only a few more days until the New Year resolutions kick in. What a great way to start the new year with a new gust of internet generated sales.....

Now is the time to strike...while the fire is Hot.

If you can get in to see them, sales are easier now.

And ...don't forget...Many businesses are flush with cash because of Christmas spending.

Now is not the time to take a nap.

Today, I made two local online consulting sales. Now you have a logical reason why they should see you right away.

Good point to bring up around this time and a really good question by OP. It is true you are going to get people not up for talking on a cold call for instance, but they are the same as getting any other excuse at any other time of year. It is the same probability factor as any other time. It's true that Christmas day itself will slow down immensely, but you might be surprised who you get a hold of even on that day if you really wanted to call. I am dealing with the same thing as I make calls primarily. I am pretty much going to kick back on Christmas Eve and Day, but any average business owner is going to go back to work the next day.

I think the personal perception is key here, when you are working for yourself you tend to start thinking everyone has as much time as you do. If a business owner or decision maker really has that much time, then they probably don't need your service anyway, or at least is not hot to jump on something right now. That is certainly true for more corporate companies, they will tend to take a week off till after New Years - again not your ideal client possibly. On the other hand, the likelihood that the gatekeepers are off, while the owner is in also is going to rise up for small to medium business. Also, New years does not really count, the worst thing you are looking at is hangovers on the 1st.

In all reality, you can keep calling straight through each and every day. Worst thing is you are going to get a rise in "They're not in..." or answering machines and the occasional "What they hell are you calling me on Christmas for" when you get business owners who work at home.

This is a great time to make sales. If you have time, use this weekend to prep for selling the day after Christmas. Sure, there are many business that close the week between Xmas and New Years, but there are even more who want to get their businesses in order for the new year. Now go make money.

MANY business owners are looking to update their sites for 2013!

And they are searching out web designers right now. Trust me on this.
Every week I'm in a meeting with a room full of business owners and I heard at least 3 in the past week say they wanted to update their sites for the new year.

Not only can you advertise what Claud said, but you can write up a report too. Something like "7 Essential Changes Your Website Needs for 2013". Then mail them out to contractors/plumbers/painters anyone who owns their own business, with an end of the year sale.

As part of my Christmas email to all my clients, I also let them know I am not taking holidays. I keep up my advertising and I am still getting some work. It is quieter but it is still there....If anybody needs writing or proofreading done, let me know.
See? It's that easy. Some people may not be able to use their usual source because of the holidays too.

Here is something you can put in your pipe and smoke - THERE IS NEVER A BAD TIME TO CONTACT LOCAL BUSINESSES. So far, 3 signed on the dotted line with 3 more next week. Mind you, there are only 3 signed because I decided to call on only 2 days this month. It is my fault but I said, what the hell, I got other things to do.

Oh, I do have four to call in January because THEY decided to take Dec off. Each one admitted they needed a website or work done on their current website. This doesn't mean they'll be a slam dunk but I guarantee I'll call them and at least get them into the office.

We own 3 businesses and probably will be dumping one of them in March or April. It seems to be putting a drag on our web biz. That's another reason for only 3 signed. But, what the hey, our plan is working and we are eating 3 a day so I ain't complaining.

Good luck to you. I hope you are twice as successful as we are.

With the exception of Tuesday, or any actual holi-day...it is never a BAD time to call. Yes, there are some slower times, but you will always be gathering information, DM names, or catching some DM's in when you normally wouldn't.

If you are breathing, it is a good time to call people! We are taking Monday off too though, just for family time.

Most of business people are taking their leave on vacation or having Christmas mode now.
But you still have your target to hit , so just do whatever you can to close the sales before Christmas. It good that you can bring some Christmas promo or something that make payment before Christmas will get certain free or discount .
As long they found extra value you can give, they still able to spend their time with you to deal for the business.
