OK, so I'm ready for web design? Tools I need?

I'm ready to make money offline as a web designer. Would anyone mind listing the essential tools I need?

1. How does the client pay for hosting?
2. What hosting company do I use?
3. How do I get paid?
4. Do I need to see clients face to face?
5. Any resources for creating a contract?

Lastly, in the case of web design, which is a high ticket service, does using Adwords for myself make sense?

  • Hi ckbank,

Try to answer your questions, hopefully you satisfy with the answers

    1. If you are talking about the web designer , you just design the web you do not develop the web so no hosting needed , the client usually provide the hosting by themselves. Or you can provide the hosting ( one stop solution : web design , web development , web hosting ) All in one package for the customer

    2. I recommend you using the well known hosting company such as hostgator , hostmonster , etc .

    3. Well you can get paid by wire transfer , paypal , bank transfer if it is still in your local area.

    4. Usually I meet my client first , brainstorming about the web design and I usually propose 3 mock up design

    5. just googling it

    6. Feel in offline business for web design , I highly recommend you are using groupon , local magazine , local newspaper , flyer to promote your business . I assume that you just open your web design business

Hopefully you satisfy with my answers , feel free to discuss

    Cheers mate

Yes. I will be completely new. I'm a college grad, but not in computer science. My biggest worry is not having authority. I mean if I was a business and some guy contacted me, why in the world would I want to hand some random dude a $1000? In my mind, the math feels so easy and that doesn't feel right. For example, with only a single client a week @ $1000, I can make 52,000 / year? To me that feels wrong, because I've never made that much in my life. Also, in the mind of the business owner, what would make me a professional and what would give me authority and trustworthiness?

Think about it. If you were a business owner, how would you feel about a one man operation, without any official web design schooling or industry qualifications, trying to design you a website for $1000?

There is a quote "don't judge people by its cover"
but I don't believe in offline business

People do judge and BUY from the appearance

For me , I don't care if you can do the design or not , either you grad from bachelor of design or computer science , etc ..
As long as you show me your HOT portofolio and you can deliver well your job, I would buy from you, eventhough you just high school grad

Make an outstanding presentation for your client , make them be stunned
        Be confident
        Deliver your job well
it's OK to get paid "low" in order to build your reputation first
Satisfied your customer , tell them to introduce you to their friends
Word of mouth Marketing is one of the best marketing

        Cheers mate

  • One more ,

Make sure you do the limitation on the revision of the design otherwise the design would be too broad to design

For me , I limit it to 3 times revision
