Which industries should I target for selling my SEO services

I will start cold calling tomorrow to sell my SEO services, and I was wondering what kind of businesses I should target to achieve a better conversion rate? For example, lawyers vs plumbers vs ecommerce etc.

Any advice would be appreciated

I'd start with using common sense as an assumption before looking for any harder evidence (e.g. statistics). For example, I'm not sure I know many plumbers are likely to market themselves with a website compared to lawyers. It might be a more even case if you decided to target firms that employed either of them. Just my two cents.

It depends on your location. Some industries in some countries are into SEO, some are not. If you're starting out I'd avoid ecommerce sites unless it is a very narrow niche.

I have had success with health related services like dentists, podiatrists, psychologists and so on.

What you could do in look at the sorts of businesses your local competitors are getting.

Lets say you are based in London.

Just do a search one something like:
    seo london our clients
    seo london testimonials
    london seo services reviews

This may help you narrow down your focus. Where are you located?

This is funny. I just found a local SEO company that has a video that guarantees they can get your company on the top of google places. The funny thing is that their company's listing is at the bottom of google places. You wouldn't take your car to a mechanic that couldn't keep their own car running would you?

This is exactly what usually happens, the SEO companies have no idea what they are doing, however they still quite happily take clients money for their inept fumbling.

Really the only SEO companies worth trusting are the ones on the first page or two of the Google results for the term SEO services or similar. That doesn't mean that they can't make money at it though.

You are 100% wrong on this. The one and only thing I want to know from an SEO company is have they got someone else doing what I do to the top or more relevant traffic really.

That proves to me that they can help me.

I couldn't care less where they are as that is not my industry.

Tell me what you can do for me then prove it.

That is all I want to know. Then we can discuss costs.

If you don't believe me call 1000 people. Hardly anyone will ask you where you are.

Countless threads on cold calling, I don't think a single one has 'How do you get round the objection of not ranking yourself' because it never arises.

I sell SEO and have put clients web pages in the top 3 and their google place too, but my site for marketing and seo are somewhere on page 645. I use other sites I control or own to show I can do it.

      Maybe they're doing the same.

On the other hand, not every body can afford the top 10 contenders... And, for a lot of keywords, the small fish can do the job.

Yup, I like to split hairs when I can't sleep.

Stick with businesses that will get repeat business from each client they get like dentists, health care, insurance, etc. These people are more willing to spend because they get a customer for life and see a higher roi.

I don't know which is more funny: these constant 'which niche' threads OR
your (Mwind076) constant negative replies to them.

They may not stop, but you sure certainly can.
It's going to continue, it has and it will, and you can't do anything about it.
      So leave it alone already.

Deal with it. Grow past it. Look at it and not see it.

You'll feel better. You'll sleep sounder. We'll all be the better for it.

Target small business owners such as home remodeling, dentists. etc.

You're selling SEO services. You can target just about anyone who has a website and wants to rank on Google.

Your best bets are with small businesses though since these types of companies are the ones who would look to invest in getting a good spot on SERPs to help with attracting their target customers.

There is no specific industry to target.
You can do SEO for every website that is on the internet.
    So target them all.
