Does Yellow Book Offer Reduced Adwords Clicks as a Partner?

Hi everyone,

I am working with a client providing SEO and trying to help them with adwords too. They have been with Yellow Book for a while, and long story short their ads are terrible and the landing page is even worse lol.

The statistical tracking that Yellow Book provides is very generic. It basically tells them how many clicks they got, and what they paid. It does provide what keywords were bid on, and the positions they ranked.

The ads are spread out across adwords, yahoo, and msn.

The salon that I am working with said that Yellow Book told them that because they are a special partner with Adwords, they get a reduced click thru rate. Have you ever heard such a thing?

I know that we "partner" with adwords too when doing this. They even sent me a hat

I want to bring to their table a much higher degree of optimization. Get a lower ctu, target specific locations and keywords, etc.

Has anyone had experience in taking over an adwords campaign from yellow book?

I know that yellow book consultants are managing over 300 clients each.

Just curious, especially if anyone can confirm they get a special break when getting clicks on google.

Thanks for your feedback

Matt

    Hey Matt,

I don't know if they can truly offer a discount or not. I doubt it.

But what I have seen some of the yellow page businesses do is that they have the customer pay a flat fee per month. In which they say they will promote your business using PPC. Then they get 4-5 other businesses in the same niche i.e. plumbers to pay the same flat fee and then drive that traffic to their plumber listing page for that area. In other words 1 ad promoting all plumbers.

Pretty smart on their part. They get to drive more traffic to their directory, show all these customers increased impressions on their listings and look like heros and they make money doing it. They actually get paid to drive traffic to their sites. However, the businesses are really getting hosed on this kind of deal because it boils down to almost luck of the draw in getting the call.

This may be slightly inaccurate as it has been a few years since I sat down with my dad and his yellow page rep and listened to this bullsh*t sales pitch. They were throwing out numbers that were ridiculous. I knew they were full of it because I already had an SEM campaign set up for his business and the impressions were minimal.
