I'm not sure if you've been asleep under a rock lately but Godaddy has been making major headway marketing their web design solutions. The sleeping giant has awakened.

Now, comes the announcement they've teamed up with major retailer Office Max to offer web design solutions nationwide.

OfficeMax Teams Up with Go Daddy to Provide Exclusive Website Service Bundles for Small Business Customers - PR Newswire - The Sacramento Bee

This really is a major opportunity to those of us who can think outside the box.

What do you think? Do you see this as opportunity in your neck of the woods?

Enjoy!

Call me a cynic, but it seems like they're going after the junk clients we don't want anyway.

The articles says that most small businesses don't have a website. I submit that most small businesses don't have a website because most small businesses don't make any money (read: can't afford to pay us).

I've got to ask you to spell out the opportunity for me, Mojo lol. I don't see opportunity with a market like that.

I hear ya bro. I wasn't thinking about those without websites per se but the business model in general.

As John Durham has often said, back when he sold those simple, directory styled pages, was that part of his company's success could be attributed to their "plug and play system" of selling what many of us today would consider dinky, prehistoric style websites.

With this move, Godaddy is simply doing what many classic marketers like Jay Abraham and Sterling have taught in terms of strategically Joint Venturing with an entity whose currently catering to their market.

Can we talk for a minute? You guys are an interesting bunch though. This isn't directed at you in particular KF. Lately, I've noticed that if a story resource is presented from a fear base perspective then invariably someone will say, " it's not threatening, it's no big deal, they tire of hearing doom and gloom".

However, in this instance I purposefully presented this particular story in an optimistic way, yet was met with " the grass is not green, these non-website having clients suck" reaction. Maybe it's the weather who knows.

Sometimes this crew can be as dramatic as The Real Housewives of Atlanta which is why I stay tuned in

MetLife recently trialed a cheap life insurance product in Wal-Mart in a few select states.

With so many people without life insurance out there, and with Wal-Mart literally selling to everyone in the US, it seems like a good medium to "evangelize" people into buying life insurance.

Turned out to be a complete failure. Don't know why.

But... even if it WAS successful... as all salespeople know, it's easier to sell to the converted.

Converting somebody to your mindset, or way of thinking, who doesn't think that way at all, is the most difficult selling proposition.

lol I can't help but feel a part of a psych experiment.

In any case, I do not think GD will be "successful" with this. If they do make money, it will be in the way that the Yellowpages sells sites and online marketing - by preying on the naive.

Wow! I'm surprised something like this didn't happen sooner.

    Makes so much sense.

    Interesting for sure.

To be honest, they'll probably go after the same price point as web.com, which isn't the price point I like to be at. I'll treat this the same way I treat YP.com in my sales pitch. Volume vs Value.

If you think about it though Office Max is a different clientele than Walmart. Walmart has a lot of lower income shoppers that won't buy life insurance or can't afford it. Office Max caters to people buying office supplies aka people with an office aka people in business aka business owners and their staff. It can work since it would be like Staples printing business and their tech support business, just a small piece of their business, it most likely won't take up a lot of space in their stores (if any). With a low price point I can see them convincing some businesses. Costco does something basically the same thing Costco Services and with GoDaddy Costco - Domains, Websites & Search Engine Marketing - Go Daddy . It's business as usual for offline marketers. It's just a press release to hype it up, I don't see it as any kind of threat to my business or anyone else's.
