What Have You Done For a Business Owner That Has Thrilled Them?

A lot of the new guys here are missing out on a key feature of a successful offline consulting business model. The concept of preeminence (putting the needs of your client before your own). That's the key to staying around for years to come...making your clients happy as hell and wealthy.

I'd like to hear specific examples of what you guys have done for your clients to thrill them? Things like improving review scores, rankings, setting up birthday clubs or SMS marketing, etc.

What have you done for a client that you are the most proud of?

Going over and above our agreed coaching contract to save their business. When someone is losing money every month and covering it with their retirement money - they are scared.

When you turn it all around for them you have created a real believer.

What did you specifically do for them?

I was hired to work with the employees to increase sales.

I ended up restructuring their entire marketing process. Sometimes you just gotta do more than the customer thinks they need. Sometimes the people inside a business have the most difficult time finding the problem.

I had a client who was haemorrhaging money through Adwords, we created custom landing pages and ran split tests on their ads and conversion optimisation on their site.

They went from a loss to £6.8 million profit through PPC in 11 months with us.

They went from being a regional business to an international business, needless to say the owner was pretty thrilled.

SMS marketing and birthday clubs. Opt in forms on their website to build both SMS and emails lists. Also running adwords ads at 62 cents each (something they never did before) to more than double the business they were doing before. Also taking over their main website from someone who charged way too much for doing nothing with it.

The stuff we take for granted and know inside and out can make a huge difference in a local business' bottom line. The hardest part is getting them to let you help.

100% Agree and I tell people that I have mentored and helped before... You are not a sales person, you are a CONSULTANT! A lot of people forget the reason why they contact businesses and all the care is about how much money to take from a business, not realizing is take care of your client, help them and money always comes. The busier they get from the work you do, the more they will appreciate you and trust you. Nothing better than having a clients that trust you because anything you say they will do because it worked before. I had a client he wanted a website and do a one time optimization for his Google + Local page so I went out of my way and gave him a free month of video SEO and a couple of extra things and when I went to deliver the site and show him the work he was thrilled! next week got a big website job because that same happy client refereed me to a friend... Be a consultant, stop being a sales person!

I kind of enjoy the reputation I've built with my clients as someone who brings them a boost of business on command.

I kind of stay away from doing things like Dan above, where their whole marketing strategy is revamped, simply because I'm juggling three businesses at once and I can't find the time to really commit myself for any significant amount of time with a client. I'm sure Dan has systems in place to where he doesn't have to really chain himself to his clients but for me I just enjoy giving businesses a needed 'boost' when they need it.

For me, it never gets old to see how happy my clients are when they get a rush of business in during their hardest times or when they finally discover methods that actually bring in business on demand.

Bringing in 25k worth of annual billings in 2 days for maxrezn
from a kick-ass Craigslist ad I wrote for him.

He said if it wasn't for me he wouldn't be putting down a deposit on a yacht.

Results like this never grow old on me.

Yet writing ads for others isn't a great business model
because you have to start fresh all over again for a new client.

Not like my paper receipt business where the product is the same and clients keep coming back for more.

I know a little off topic the last bit.

      Best,
      Ewen

P.S. Just remembered, showed him an ad to copy
for his plumbing client. Used it and and said it brings in an extra 30 k per month for him.
      Nice!

I have client that is 5 years already with me, for sure they like me. The thing is that except for providing them quality service and satisfaction, I "baby" them and take good care of them.
