The Ofer: Little changes make a BIG difference

When working out offers for your clients...
it could be the Bob Ross style Giant Postcard mailing...
it could be sms or email messages to their existing clients...

then what may seem the same offer at first thought,
but the end result can make a big difference.

Here's 3 ways of expressing the same thing.

Which do you think will get the highest response?

Offer #1: Buy two widgets, get them both at half price
Offer #2: Buy two widgets, get them both at 50%-off
Offer #3: Buy one widget, get a second one free

I'll come back later on after a few off you have had a stab at it.

Best,
Ewen

Option 3. The word free still holds magical powers, plus it's less mental math for the consumer.

I like it. The perfect way to sell a directory listing for $97. per month is giving the first 30 days free with "no design fee".

Do that 250 times in a year and you got yourself a quarter of a million dollars in residual income. It would only take one decent telemarketer to pull that off.

Ask me how you can get one telemarketer to pull that off... Okay, I'll answer:

Have him come to your house, sit at a work station and "T.O" closes to you all day while you surf the net and work on your directory". Pay him 100 bucks per day for 8 hours and a $25.00 bonus for anything past two closes per day. Make the minimum quota 2 per day. some days he will do one, and others he will do three. It averages out.

It wont be long till he wants to close his own to make sure you dont blow any of his good prospects.

You will only be in the red for 30 days.

      -John

Ps. He will be proud to work next to you and think you are a visionary, and you WILL be one.

Edit: Pay him $400 per week for 6 1/2 hours per day, and give him a hundred dollar bonus if he shows up on time and works all his hours everyday. Be firm and dont give him the extra hundred dollars if he is late even one minute during the week.

      What do you have now?

A guy that says to his girlfriend "Wow, my boss gives me a hundred dollar bonus just for showing up on time! This is an awesome job! "

        Hi there,

Sheesh - what has the world come to when we have to start paying people just to show up on time?!?!

Not trying to derail the OP,

        I'd go for option #3.

        That's just me.

        Best

Part of it is the people you hire at that price point. The advantage is that you can truly train some superstars in that group and they will stay with you making a lot less than they could in the open market if they knew how to market themselves.

Many of the people I know personally who are rockstar telemarketers would never get hired for a normal sales job (say cars, insurance, or B2B) due to things like the way they look (tatoos/etc). This becomes a great advantage to the houses that can find these people and turn them into superstars. They will be excited to be making $20k, $30k, or $40k a year when many of the rest of us in sales wouldn't even give a job with that kind of potential a second look.

Yes for some reason people are still drawn to the word free when clearly theses statements all say the same thing.

I think a big part of this both depends on the product you're offering and the price points of the products.

You'll be surprised when these little changes are accumulated when time comes, these little changes will make bigger difference. It's no matter how big or small it is as long as there is something that keeps going on.

I think this is a trick. Sneaky little Ewen... ;-)
You don't know which offer will work best until you test all 3.
But, by testing all 3 you will know what one works the best.

Different areas, different markets, different demographics, even different phases in the buying cycle will make people respond differently to different offers.

    1 ... 2 .. and 3 won't get through email filters

truthfully, i am not even sure they will get thru SMS filters which are pretty close to mimicking email nowadays.

but for SMS.. which is completely different then regular ad copy ( for conversions )
number three would probably convert better.

As far as post cards go... let's mail 30,000 and find out.

AND i want to know ... Your subjects are often spelled wrong,
is that a copy writing trick for clicks / views?

I wondered the same. The answer might turn the whole place into a bunch of misspelled titles though. Ironic, I JUST NOW wondered the same thing.
