Is phone book advertising still worthwhile? And, can you get real referrals/leads by using it?

    If you are talking about Yellow Pages advertising then

    For many topics I would say no. The prices the phone book used to charge were, frankly, borderline extortion when it was the only game in town.

    Now, a court case last year deciding whether ordinances deeming phone books as unwanted trash ruled they have 1st Amendment protections, but the court also noted many consumers now consider them a nuisance.

    Personally, I don't know anyone who uses a phone book anymore. We don't. It goes straight from the driveway to the recycle bin.

    Between high costs and growing adverse consumer opinion, I would carefully consider who my target market is, their age, and whether they are likely to still use a phone book.

    My office doesn't bother with the phone book and will never advertise there in the future.
