My best day in offline ever £997 ($1,562)

As the title stated today was officially my best day ever £997 from 1 client.

Im not saying this to boast, but I really had an ah ha moment, basically up to now, for the last 3 months I have been struggling trying to close £99 - £199 type clients for my relatively new PPC business, which admittedly I have actually been doing OK with.

This guy was my biggest client yet but was actually one of my easier sells yet, I managed to sell him:

Adwords management on an existing campaign £299/month,
G+ Local, new set up £449 one time payment
and SEO ongoing for 249/month

Due to todays success I have come to the conclusion that in many cases upto now I may have been targeting the wrong prospects, people with low budgets and very high expectations, which in quite a few cases has resulted in clients that are very demanding.

The beauty with this client is he is spending roughly £5k - £7k per month on PPC and after a quick audit I know I can optimize the campaign for an easy 15-20% improvement, so in theory I can save him £500 - £1400 per month whilst maintaining his lead volume, so I get an easy payday and he gets great value.

So whats the point of me telling you this? well I guess I just wanted to share my lesson learned today, and that is the bigger and what might seem harder to close clients are sometimes the easiest, why? simple they are spending money, they understand marketing, or at least they understand the need to do it

Also take my new client, he had over £150k worth of data in Adwords to work with and optimize, now compare this to a one man band who you have to persuade to spend £300 per month on PPC, who then wonders why his phones aren't ringing off the hook and wants to know why you cant optimize faster even though you have no data, trust me I would take scenario 1 every time.

I guess the point is the low hanging fruit isn't always where you think it is.

Anyway there it is, a good day I'm happy to answer any questions

This is totally my point, this guy was sold before I even finished my pitch, the key for making this a no brainer was I pitched the PPC first and explained how much I thought I could save him.

I actually got this one via PPC which admittedly is a little expensive, I'm paying about £3.75 per click and even with an average quality score of 7 this still puts me in an average position 5+, however my conversion rate for a lead via PPC is about 6.8%, then I'm closing close to half of the warm leads I get on the phone, so it is cost effective:

With that said its not the only way I have been getting clients the following have all got me clients also:

      1. Adwords: if your going to test it just set up a brand new account just for this purpose and use one of the free vouchers they give you, here in the UK if you spend £25 they give you £75.
      2. Cold email
      3. Linkedin
      4. Freelance sites
I need to start cold calling really thats my biggest weakness right now, ideally I am hoping to find someone who is interested in some kind of rev share who can do the telemarketing for me.

This is really motivating for a noob. I got started in SEO a few months, together with a partner, who is doing the coding stuff but had only one project, so far thanks to a friend's father. Now what I am doing is, I have selected three industries, which I am interested in and building of local businesses, which I find on Google. can you give me some tips for cold emailing, because I tried that few times and nobody answered. I hate this, at least, they could mail back and say "thanks we are not interested or something", which is what I would do. So, would appreciate any tips you may have on cold emailing.

First of all, congratulations! That's a very good amount and I do believe he'll keep your service because you seem to really know what you are offering him.

I guess I really have to practice doing this. Based from what I've read here, there is good money in doing this. Ah, if only I'm not that shy.

Yeah, nothing like that, it was quite an obscure niche, there are only a few hundred of these professionals in the whole of the UK so I wont be sharing what they do, sorry

You are absolutely right. I always try to make sure that the person totally understands the value I am offering with my services and products. When you speak the same language with the client, you have a higher chance of closing. Those low budget, high expectation guys are nothing but a timesink, so unless someone needs urgent cash, they should be avoided by all means. Let non-warrior marketers deal with them.

Generally speaking clients who charge substantial fees are
easier to work with, respect your time and respect your
      expertise more.

It's the discount clients who are most likely to be a pain in
      the rear end.

"£500 - £1400 per month whilst maintaining his lead volume, so I get an easy payday and he gets great value."

      That is great.

I would also say that you can still be charging a WHOLE lot
more than you did this client.

You're going to save him 6,000 to 15,000 pounds a year with just
one of the strategies you use and you're only charging 1,000 pounds.

It's a great start but you could work on breaking your belief barrier
      on charging clients even more.

There's a thread on that topic here...

UKCarl - I've looked at other companies doing PPC in the UK and your pricing seems still really reasonable for the customer. Some charge £300-£500 minimum, then over £5000 monthly ad spend it's usually 10% of the ad spend.

How do you come up with your prices?

To be honest in most cases I charge between 20% - 7%, in this case I priced it different because, realistically I know just due to the nature of the account and the industry/competition that it will be relatively low maintenance.

I worked the ppc out on a mixture of time it will take and value I believe I can deliver in terms of how much I will save him vs how much I will cost him, basically it should be easy to manage and if he remains happy its a long term client for me.

The plus local is outsourced so thats just easy money

And the SEO is pretty simple a lot of his keywords are on page 2-3 anyway so it should be relatively easy to get him ranking on page one.

but how do you find businesses with as large budgets as you have mentioned. I don't think businesses such as doctors and dentists can afford it to who can? I'm not asking for a specific business more an industry.

Manufacturing might be a good place to start.

Businesses building boats, ships, custom cars, kitchens...anything where
the average sale is in the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands or
more are far more likely to pay you in the $10,000+ range.

They only need one client to pay for your work.

Also in those industries it's often a lot easier to get to talk to the business
owner and they're not getting approached by a ton of sales people every
          week.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

I only have on thing to add to this.

Would you rather have 5 clients paying $200 a month or one paying $1,000? You might lose those 5 first guys because $1,000 is too high, but doesn't matter, that sixth one makes up for them all, and you have 5 less people to deal with

Also, well done, man. Keep it up!
