i would like your opinion and suggestions please

Hopefully this is the appropriate forum to ask this suggestion, but I'm trying to start a website with a paid newsletter site. I'm read that it is good to have free material, which I plan to have. I was told it's good to have a free section and a members only paid section.
To give you some background:
The reason for my endeavor is not expecting to make thousands over night with no work, as so many scams promote. I'm looking for success long term. I thought of this idea to supplement my retirement if it every comes, but that would be something like 15-20 years down the line; so I have lots of time to perfect this. It seems that with today's economy everyone retirement fund is in jeopardy.
I was also told to write about topics you are passionate and knowledgeable about. For me, that's law. I'm not a lawyer, but I love learning about it.
I was thinking about a paid newsletter to be put out once a month and charge 1-3 dollars on a recurring month basis. The topics would be current case law that is being challenged or changed. Then for a little comedy and fun reading I thought about including the entire dumbass things people do that lands them in jail and the ridicules things people are suing for.

What do you think? Would this idea be worth pursuing? Would you pay for it?

If you have TONS, of people that are passionate about this topic, then you could possibly make some money. It all comes down to, how much interest, your topic has and how quickly you can get traffic to that site and convert that traffic into sales.

The best suggestion I can give you is to write a few samples and run it past lawyers and paralegals you know. Have them give you an honest opinion. If they think what you offer is good you can begin a plan to take it to that next level.

From a basic plan point of view it sounds fine. You just need to test it to see if it is viable in the market.

When you show it to those lawyers and paralegals, don't tell them your plans. Just see if they voluntarily ask you if they buy an article from you. Otherwise I think yers you should do something you're passionate about, because that will give you motivation. But you have to do something people will buy, or that will cause frustration. Not just say they'll buy... but actually buy.

Thanks for that follow up. I didn't think about that. Great advice.

If you put out good enough content, on a regular basis and put that content in enough places, you'll generate interest.

Keep your content very targeted, so that people can be clear on exactly what you're sharing. The more targeted your info, the easier it will be for people interested in that topic to find you.

You can always reach out to lawyers for guest posts, info.

I once subscribed to an inspirational quote of the day delivered to my inbox.

People will pay for content on a topic that interests them..

    I think it's a good idea.

And charge a LOT MORE. $1-$3 tells me it isn't worth much.
