Any tips on making it past information passers?

You know the type. You call and they want to take down your information or have you email them so they can pass it along to whoever. They won't give you the name or the contact info of the person you need to be talking with. Sometimes you'll get an email back saying they've passed your info along, but no one you want to talk to calls/emails you back and all you have is the name of the information passer for your next contact.

Anyone have any tips for handing this type of response?

    As someone who might get the info passed to me I want to say I hate that. No gatekeeper should be doing that as it is a waste of my time, their time, and your time for them to pass on the info vs just talking to me.

    I'm not sure how you are approaching these people. Are you using anything like Jason's little unsure method?

    Also how often are you getting this? The truth is they may think you and your offer has no value and since you pitched them they want to save their boss or co-worker from your pitch. Aka it's a line to get rid of you.

    If that is the case you need to figure out what you are doing wrong in the sales process.

    To be honest, I don't get it all that often. Most of the companies I call have some kind of automated directory system so if I have a name, I try to avoid the receptionist/operator altogether. If I have a name and have to speak with an attendant, I'll just ask for the person by name.

    I never try to pitch the receptionist. If I don't have a name, I'll say something like, "I'm hoping you can help me out. I create marketing materials for companies in (their industry.) Who would be the best person to speak with?" Nine times out of ten they'll either transfer me or tell me I need a name (then I go mine LinkedIn or Jigsaw.) Every now and then I'll come up with a dead end looking for names and get someone who says to email them instead. Maybe five or six times out around 150 calls.

      Probably the owner or manager, the person you need to talk to, who can't bring him/herself to say they no.
