Hi

Im about to post a newspaper ad and am wanting to know what the best format is to get the user to take action and go to the website? Anyone have any experience here that would like to share?

I have never posted ads in newspapers and this is new territory for me.

Appreciate any help.

Make it simple yet more catchy. I have tried it before yet to no joy, had made it over-attractive that readers tend to have a doubt about it. It's a difficult one but it might be a better result on your end.

Keeping it simple will benefit you greatly. Reading the newspaper daily, there's nothing more "annoying" than long, bulky ads.

And yet long half page ads like this one...

...keep appearing in the local paper week after week. The one above (from a few days ago) is new (to me), but I've seen a couple ads last year that were published 8 weeks straight.

Don't forget to include a QR code inside the ad copy. Many readers of newspapers nowadays have smartphones with QR code readers installed inside them. A QR code will help them instantly visit the website.

Not saying this to be argumentative, honestly, but I have never once in my life, nor have I ever seen or heard of anyone else in the real world scanning a qr code with their phone. The only place I ever hear about this is on the Warrior Forum. Around here you would think the whole world is going around scanning qr codes like crazy with their phone, when most people offline dont even know what one is in my experience, which I think is pretty much representative of most in this area.

I may be wrong, and others may have different experience, but I know alot of people that live and breath by their phones, and I have never once seen or heard of anyone scanning a qr code with it.

Yes, QR code is really more helpful, you can get more consumers by adding this.

        Thanks for the details guys.

I wont be using QR codes as this niche is filled with baby boomers and I to agree with the other guy that said I've never seen anyone use one, especially baby boomers

I like the article idea.... a lot!

This is Joe Sugarmans technique too.

is this for an affiliate sale or a service? if your doing a service (I assume you are since this is in the offline forum) go for the phone number, you'll be much more likely to get the sale

Its for an online service. QR codes will not work.

In my past business, I got the most business from a simple advertorial in a local community paper that ran for 2 years, constantly paying for itself on the front end, and giving me plenty of recurring revenue to support myself and my family.

If you do a search for my posts, you'll find the post where I attached it and shared it with everyone here.

That's the only way I'd advertise in the papers these days. It was that effective relative to more standard looking ads I had trialed.

I've one client where the QR code is working extremely well in a Parenting magazine. The ad is for a reading program for toddlers. The code sends them to a squeeze page for a special report. He then hits them with a sales letter.

You'll notice the examples of newspaper ads given point to a phone number, not a website. In Halbert's case it's because it's from years ago. If you want to reach women nowadays who are young enough to consider themselves having modeling careers, I think you won't find them leafing through the Miami Herald. They're more probably nowadays looking at ModelMayhem.com.

Similarly, the other ad though current is pitching a pill to help stop memory loss. Memory loss! Aimed at a specific generation more prone to having that problem and who most probably still read a physical print and ink newspaper, don't you think? Which is why the ad's there in a newspaper.

And so as I mentioned, you'll note both those ads point to a phone number, not a website.

You're selling an online service to baby boomers? Which of these two groups of baby boomers do you think are more likely to use an online service?

The older generation of baby boomers may not be as prone to hop online if they're reading a physical paper and ink newspaper. But they're used to calling a 800 number.

Younger baby boomers who ARE online read their news there. But newspaper ads? Online? Not what they read.

I'd forgo newspapers completely and do direct mail with a website and a phone number. That's good for both groups.
