Best database solution for DM

Wanted to ask you pros what a good introductory solution might be for managing data for a direct mail campaign?? I understand the need to manage the data, new customers, upsells, client type etc... No real database knowledge so a simple to use solution is for me!

Anyone have any tips?

    What exactly will you be managing? Just lists? I don't know your exact needs, but I'm going to say you'll probably be able to get away with Microsoft Excel. It's also pretty easy to learn.

    If you need relationships between different tables of data, then Microsoft Access will work better (it's a real database management system). It will also work better with more entries and has a more precise filter/query. I haven't used Access too much but it is definitely useful and provides functionality I couldn't find in Excel.
