Google Places vs. Google Plus Local-either way, you're screwed

I ended up with two listings after wishful thinking that they would merge after I verified the Plus Local listing.

Which one should I delete?

I'm inclined to delete the Places listing.

Has anyone encounter this issue?

    This is a tricky one,

I wouldnt suggest deleting either - this is a gangster way of doing it but push/update all your citations and make sure they all point to your new biz name/address, when google updates there servers it should show correct details for both listings.

I actually thought about that, but I only want to rank the new local plus listing.

I don't want to get penalized for having both listings.

In any case, I appreciate your insight.

If I was you, I would shoot myself.

But seriously, I've been through this before and its a nightmare to deal with.

For 9 months I harassed google, emailed them, posted on their forums, even tried calling up adwords to see if there was anyone I could talk to about google places lol.

I tried deleting the listing and it would keep coming right back. I would go to bed and dream that I was being attacked by duplicate listings.

The real issue was that we couldn't login to older accounts, that had our former citations on them, so we couldn't change the address. No matter what we did, there was always 2 listings.

Eventually I made a brand new site, linked it to a new address, and redid everything from scratch. I wish I would have made that decision after the first week. Because that new listing ranked like cake. Took about 3 months before it started taking on decent traffic, and I had no issues at all with the new site/listing/address.

This may not seem feasible for you. But if the problem continues for another month or 2, you may want to give up and make a new site. You can use that site for all your local search traffic like I do.
Your situation may turn out different, depending on what your citations look like. But I figured I would mention it just encase.
