    Very interesting.

There goes any temptation I ever had to use facebook ads.

I also love the quote "sales will be the new leads".

I just got done talking about commission based models in lead gen rather than selling them individually. It forces you to work more personally with the company, and forces both of you do play a more substantial role in the businesses overall success. They didn't actually say anything about commission based models, but I do definitely believe that sales are becoming the new leads.

Its the way it should have been 10 years ago, and its a shame people are just now realizing it.

I also keyed in on the 'sales is the new leads'. So true

I know one thing, I was reminded why I do not ever want to get into SEO. Yikes!

I tried Facebook ads last year with a florist, who it would seem is a perfect candidate. My campaign was very geo and demo targeted.

After a few months of tweaking: Zero. Nothing. Zilcho.

With thousand of impressions, three clicks, and not one sale made, I officially stopped mentioning Facebook PPC.

I am not sold on facebook PPC for a similar reason. One of my clients who advertises in almost anything he can, and gets response on pretty much everything (liquor store) had an absolute zero ROI on Facebook PPC.

Any FB ads I've run have not returned much of anything either. It's not like an Adwords campaign where you can keep a good ad running forever. FB wants you to keep changing out pictures and what not, and the impressions dwindle to nothing every time. A real pain. Maybe I just never got the hang of it. Nice to see that mobile websites will be in demand though. I think the majority of small businesses don't think they need one, or even know what one is yet.

I've created some 80+ ads on Facebook to sell my services. When I say 80 ads, they're different concepts and tweaks because for most of those 80 ads, I got nothing. But the ones that got clicks, I saw what did it. So I can tell you if your ads are like, "Let Us Take Care Of Your Widget Needs" or "Biggest Supply Of Widgets"... you know, a blatant ad... you're not going to get anywhere on FB.

"Sales will be the new leads" is true. I've spoken with a few local businesses who have paid huge dollars for leads only to be very disappointed and won't do it again. I don't blame them.

As a former local offline biz owner, I'd never pay for leads; but I would pay handsomely for sales.

This doesn't mean traditional local marketing services will die ... but business owners will become more savvy ensuring they're earning an acceptable ROI.

This is why I think working on a sales commission is a good model now and for the long term. Sales = big commissions and happy clients. Worst case scenario is generating no sales, but then the client won't be ticked because they pay nothing.

I disagree with this model. too many variables involved that is out of your control

if someone is going to rely on ME to actually go out and make sales for them

then I want a %% of the company or something worthwhile in relation to the work that I will be doing.

I have seen and done businesses with many offline brick and morter and most of these guys could not sell PERIOD..
