New Content Creation Service Question

Hey all!

Since I've been creating content for a long time for IMers, I thought I'd start approaching local businesses to see what type of help they need. I'm getting some feedback, but I'd like to hear from you if you own your own biz servicing other businesses.

What type of content are you being asked for? Or what type of content do you find most companies are looking for? Or do they even know?

So far blog content has been on the top. But I've also been in contact with web development companies that need website content for their clients.

I have found two prevalent scenarios.

One, a new client has been creating content for some time but it really had no impact on their business because of the titles/subjects or general lack of traffic to their content. With direction they seem happy to modify how they create their content.

On the other side of the coin and much more common are clients that respond well to a suggestion that they need to continually grow their content and they simply want it taken care of.

Totally agree! Having set up many sites for clients & shown them how to blog, many of them are poor writers, don't want to write or are too nervous with "techy stuff". Most realise they need fresh content but are not good at writing themselves.

As a writer I would offer two services (for small/micro businesses); 1 - a re-work of their website copy (it's almost always bland) & 2 - a monthly blog post. For some businesses you could offer more frequent blogging, but for really small "mom & po" style stuff I think monthly is enough not to scare them ($$$) and keep the site fresh-ish. I'd then throw in a bolt-on for a bit of social media management / promotion.

I get asked for a lot of different things.
    Website content and blog posts.
Articles for their site and for article directories.
    Ebooks and reports.
    Resumes.
    Rewrites.
Proofreading and editing all sorts of material as well.

I find it is good to have a few different strings to the bow. It enables me to get more clients.

There might be a niche in web content for new sites and for the designers side, I know I hate making home, services offered, about us page content, but as for generic blog content there is really no value in it and far as "helping a business" goes.
