Craigslist Sales Brokering?

I'm wondering if a new idea is worth the trouble of testing out.

I was recently browsing Craigslist for web design gigs when clicked on the for sale section and browsed through the ads for some reason. I wondered how long the ads had been running and if they found a buyer, remembering some of my attempts to sell on Craigslist with little interest I thought "if only someone could match up the seller with an interested buyer for a percentage of the price they wouldn't need to keep reposting their ad.

Now I'm wondering about brokering sales for sellers there. But the main issue is finding interested buyers? Alibaba (It would be interesting to hear John Durham's take on this) Has anyone tried this before?

Craigslist seems to be mostly cash 'n' carry local sales since there is no built in payment /tracking system.

I've noticed there is much more spamming and scamming on there. I have a few items for sale and get bogus inquiries all the time. I guess they are just looking for email addresses hoping you reply?

You might want to read about one person who is doing this,

Anothe easy way to make money on Craigslist - SOWPub Small Business Forums

We have many people who routinely buy and sell on Craigslist and some who broker deals. 100 to 250 bux per day is the small potatoes and easily doable if you live in or near a decent size city.

Bigger deals, where you match buyer with seller, require some time and some effort, but brokering a fire engine (for example) could easily put 5k in your pocket or more with each deal.

Use a craigslist tool which searches all craigslists, start with Kubota, and see how many are for sale and at what costs. It will open your eyes to how much money there is to be made from brokering via craigslist.

    Good luck,

Thanks for the reply and helpful info/ resources.

I took a look at people selling used cars and higher ticket items and sent them a simple email asking if it would be alright if I helped them find buyers for their vehicles, I'm sure if I could find interested buyers in a short amount of time they would be willing to pay a percentage of the sale for all my help. The only thing is where to find ready buyers? That is the $1000 (or more) question... I'll have to see what develops over the weekend.

My instinct is telling there's a lot of money to be made from classified brokering and I'm sure people on here are quietly making thousands, if not more, per week doing this (fear of increasing your competition may be one reason why we don't see many threads on this)
