Offline Experts, How Can Do This With My Product?

Hey Warriors of the Offline World,

I have an online report that I'm testing and conversions are right around 2% right now, with a really basic looking sales page. I know it can be improved, but I'm in the testing stage.

Anyway, this report targets certain niche business owners and how to improve their profit. Right now, it is setup as a DOWNLOADABLE report only.

I'd like to do a test OFFLINE and maybe send out a postcard to 100 of these businesses and see how it converts.

Now I'm pretty new to the offline ad world, so here are my questions...

1. Is there a service that can pull up 100 names and address of these types of business for me in an area?

2. As far as creating and getting a postcard done, how should I start? Where do I get them printed and what is the cost to mail out?

3. Should I stick to the download only version where they visit a website to get it, or should I have it mailed to them only? This way they actually get a physical copy and secondly, it will cut down on online thieves who buy and share.

I think if this converts well, as it has online, I could go gangbusters with it on a bigger mailing.

THANK YOU!

Your premise of the test is completely flawed. If you do it this way, you will find certain disappointment.

    1) You need to test with a few thousand.
    2) You can't just send the postcard once. Come up with a campaign that hits them several different times in several different ways.

Sure, you can get a good % response, but only with multiple followups. And, post cards might not be the right way to advertise to them. Unless the company is 1-5 people, someone else usually sorts the mail over the trash. The person you are targeting might never see it. So, keep that in mind when you build your list.

Thanks Dan, and I appreciate your honesty. That is why I'm asking.

So let's say I go with a few thousand to test, would a letter be better? Most of these businesses will indeed only have maybe 1-5 people.

And what about a service that can pull up all those names and addresses?

What about using places like InfoUsa.com for mailing addresses?
