Cold calling to sell logos vs. web design

I was just wondering if selling logos by cold calling you may be able to get as many conversions as when selling web design the same way.

I am sure the profit would be much less but I am more interested in the conversion rate.

Assuming 1 out of 100 calls result into a web design sale of $800-$1400, how many calls out of 100 would result in a logo design sale of $350-$400??

Let's assume you're just calling businesses without knowing if they already have a logo or not.

Logos are cheaper, so it won't be as costly for business and they might bite at the offer, if they do not have a professional logo. I suggest that you know, as much as you can about a business..before calling them.

Knowing a business, can possibly prepare you about the objections...that may come your way...not always..but it does help

I would get a list of new businesses that just registered or preferably new phone lines....meaning they just opened a business phone line. These guys are probably ready to buy both web design and logos.

        NEW BUSINESS CONNECTIONS Mailing List

And don't email/send proposals before calling that's a big waste of time. You don't even know if they are interested why would you waste time sending emails to people who aren't interested.

Jason Kanigans simple 2-3 sentences is all you need, your just trying to find the ones that need and want what your selling.

How much does that service you recommend cost? Are there any alternatives that are less expensive? (I'm guessing it is expensive)

I think instead of cold calling, you better go with a lead business marketing tools, send the companies your proposals via email, then call them after sending the proposal. So you don't just call them and directly offer them your services/ products. That'll waste your time a lot.

After you send the proposal then you call the prospects, then when you call you should be talking about the proposal whether or not they read it and you have the reason why you call them.

I think everything will gets a lot better to approach and close the sales from there.
    Good luck

    Qualify with your call.

"I work with business owners who believe that their current company logo no longer represents what they do, or feel that little twinge of disappointment and frown when they see the logo they have now. But I don't suppose you feel that way?"

Now you get to quickly sort those who don't like their current logo from those who don't have an issue with it.

    That'll be $87 ;-)

Its not just a logo its brand identity , a logo is a important part of their business so why not pitch it along with business cards, flyer, brochures and such.. I think its a ego thing that you could capitalize on.

If you can do logos then you can do menu 's

Try that ... Seriously ... I know half a dozen graphics guys killing it.

From what i have seen it is one of the easiest sales.
It is so good, I started offering it ... as an add on. ( placemat adverts, copy and graphics as well )
they buy one, it is easy to upsell the other ... to make sure it all matches.

I have also used it as a loss leader.

Try it before you knock it... the conversions are too good to put into print.
No one will believe them ... they are THAT good.

Menus? Are you referring to menus for restaurants?

If cold calling just for selling logos you may not see a high rate of sales if going after somewhat established business. But like it has been mentioned already, if targeting new business that could be a whole different story.
Like kenmichaels above mentioned, if doing logos, you can offer other design services.

If you offer both websites and other design services, your in a good position. Lots of companies dont have sites still or may need a complete redesign. Close the sale for the site and when working with the owner(manger) find a solution for any design work right away that's needed and if small offer to do it. Theres a good chance you will become there go to guy for everything.

Newer businesses and smaller ones are defiantly the ones to go after.

    Good luck with your sales.

You will make more per hour selling websites than logos.

They are not harder to sell.

        No problem.

Someoen dug up one of my older scripts here in the forum.

I don't use that script anymore and have edited it a lot

If you're selling menus to restaurants, I'd highly recommend you get in touch with the Restaurant Profits group and in particular their product My menu profits.

          Restaurant Profits

They have a fantastic product that can show you how to design a menu that will make the restaurant a ton more profit than a normal every day menu. And then you can charge a ton more than you would have for a regular menu. It's something I used to do around 6-8 years ago so I was very interested in it. It's all about figuring out how to maximize profit by designing the menu to where the highest profit items are in prominent places and less like a laundry list but more as a selling device.

    Ken's menu advice is great.

You need to just try to make some calls. Don't get hung up on conversion rates. Just start calling and see what happens.

Ken, can you shed more light on the menus? Are you offering to redesign their menus? How do you know whether or not they already have a killer design?

If you want to see a company with the butt ugliest logo I've ever seen go and have a look here . I use to work for them a few years back and every time I looked at the logo it made me cringe. The worst fiverr gig would come up with something better. It just goes to show how little logos actually matter the owners have made a LOT of money over the years from doing high end residential work through to large commercial developments. BTW I just noticed they have a new site design. It's actually worse than the last one.....

    Cheers Don
