I just got paid in meat!

No seriously.

I just got back from meeting a client I had built a website for to show him the dashboard of his site and what it looked like on iphone etc and get paid. Now we had agreed on price but there was some extras he wanted done, newspaper ads, a few other things etc which I did without expecting anything for.
Always over deliver right.

So this guy has a side business that's a butcher shop. Not his main biz I built site for. So he takes me down to butcher shop loads me up snacksticks, sausage, canadian bacon, pepporoni etc then pays me original fee and thanks me heartily. We shake hands and I go.

So basically I can say this: with offline marketing you literally can bring home the bacon! Man I love this business. Anybody else have any crazy payment stories to add. I'm gonna eat some snack sticks now.

We've paid normal but given extras in a few things. Chiro, food (restaurants), hair salon that did nails and a few cut/colors, massages, and car detailing.

We are always open to barters with locals and often enjoy it.

Congrats! Meat is so expensive. I don't know what a snackstick is but I want one. I just landed a barter deal today, for social media, with a dance company. It's great for me because, I get free dance classes, which I couldn't otherwise afford and crediblity to use with other offline prospects.

    Great story!!!
I have a landscaper as a client, he's also my neighbor, I did some extra work for him and his wife's website, and he is going to be paying me in labor!
We have a large parcel of land (farm/ranch), and we leased our tractor out for a while to a friend. We have some things we need done, and with no tractor.. ...
Anyhow, it's not always about the money! People often don't realize that being a little flexible about payment, will get you the client!!

There's a guy I know who does auto detailing. Guy is a genius can make practically any car look brand new. He told me he needs a website.

I will probably accept partial cash partial voucher for body work.

Trading/Bartering is awesome. Here are the things I have bartered for so far.

A new clutch and a transmission flush on my truck plus credit for future transmission work when needed.

    A retaining wall.

    A fence.

    A deck.

    Chiropractic services.

The retaining wall, deck and fence I bought the material but they did all othe work. All in all about $8K worth of services. I lover bartering.

I factor in trade with several of my contracts. Got one Vodka Company that gives me a bottle per month along with $500.00. Then just signed a Irish Pub last week, $500 Cash and $250 trade per month.

Non-cash perks are the best! I no longer pay for oil changes in any of my vehicles, car washes, hair salon services or pet grooming.

If I could secure a ladies shoe/clothing store that was as generous I might faint.

I was just wondering if you guys think it's easier sometimes to close if you give a prospective client the offer of barter or is it better to let them bring it up. Of course 100% payment is great but if its 50/50 and a sale or 100% payment and no sale, then I wouldn't hesitate to take something in trade myself. Comments on this?

Barter is cool if you can really use something, especially if your real cost of providing the service is fairly low relative to the perceived retail value.

I would not suggest looking to barter for the most part, else you end up with a bunch of stuff that you cant take advantage of in lieu of the cold hard cash.

I liken this with the idea of getting a great deal on something that you dont really want just because it was priced so low, now you got more shit piled up in the house and have less money than you did before.
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One technique that I have used with success many times is when I have offered something and would be willing to take less anyway and then I toss in something they have, for example:

I have something that I want to sell for 1k for and they are like how about $800 (And Im okay with $800) I might say, Okay Ill do it if it will help you out but you gotta throw in an oil change for me.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another tangent I have had people try and barter with me and tell me that the radio station or magazine is willing to accept partial payment in trade to which I respond
"Thats because what they have isnt even worth half the price they are asking for it, they figured they just got $500 in free food from you when you offered $500 plus $500 in gift certs for that $1000 ad"

"Im charging you less AND giving you more but if it will make you feel better Ill be happy to double my price and make the same deal as the magazine'

      It usually gets a laugh.

I bring it up, or at least leave an opening for them to bring it up. I think one reason that it helps so much is that bartering for them is almost the same thing as making a sale.

Remember, they think of your price as your price. And they also think of their wholesale cost as their price.

I've done lots of bartering...even for things I throw away. But thee is always enough real money exchanged to make it profitable.

Barter is also a great way to negotiate and keep your price integrity.
