Selling Logo Design Services

This isn't something I'm SERIOUSLY looking into - I realize selling websites is what will bring me more money. I actually had a dream last night about this which sparked an idea.

In my dream, I was for some reason doing a direct mail campaign for logo design. I remember I was sending out a portfolio of logos to businesses.

Who here has sold logo design? It's not where the big money is, but it's so easy to outsource and seems like it'd be a lot less of a headache than web development on its own. Not saying I'd switch over, (I currently prospect for mobile websites and basic websites) but I'd look into it.

Here are some questions; hopefully you guys can give me some input if you've sold logo design before:

1) How much did you charge? (and for how many mockups if more than one)

2) How much did you pay/outsource to have logos created for clients?

3) How did you obtain clients? (cold calling, direct mail, email??)

4) Would you recommend selling logo design?

I'm definitely going to start using logo design as an upsell to current clients. I usually incorporate it in the full website price if a company requests some, but I'd like to try and maximize profit and maybe sell it to past clients too.

Hopefully some of you can answer my bolded questions. Any other feedback is also welcomed, of course!

I sell logo design strictly as an upsell to my web design clients. Many of my web re-design clients want completely different branding for their business, so they're interested in logo design. I have several people I outsource the design to. Each one has different packages, some give more revisions than others. The package I present to the clients always has the the fewest revisions option. This way my client knows they may be charged for additional revisions, if they try to play hard to please.

I show my client samples from various logo designers(presented as my work) and they chose which style of design the like the best. Depending on the client choice, that's which logo designer I give the project to.

I offer it as part of the package, kind of like a bonus if they want it... gives them a little more perceived value.

But if they want more revisions etc, then i will charge.

There are a couple of warriors here that have good reps, and some have very good prices too

I used to run a design agency. So selling logo design was a big part of that, but I tried to bundle it together with a whole branding exercise for them.

Used to get about £2000.00 for a logo design and branding. But even that is quite cheap really...

We sell logo design, 2 per day per rep on the phone with a script, for $249 outsource for $35.

    The $35 gets me:

4 logo concepts with unlimited revision
3 Business card concepts with unlimited revision
3 Letterhead and envelop concepts with unlimited revision

So the business card design and letterhead and envelope I give them "free"

$214 gross per sale....not bad...and yes like you said it is less of a hassle.

Basically your just finding those businesses who are not happy with their current logo or want a logo.

How good is the quality of the logo designs?

I think they are awesome or I wouldn't use them haha.

I'm not saying they are higher quality than the $2000 logos you sold but for a small business owner everyone has been very happy.

      Hey guys,

This actually intrigues me. I feel like it wouldn't be difficult for me to make up a nicely-converting script for small business owners who are either unsatisfied or don't have one.

Okay, the juices are starting to flow.

I've been thinking about the idea of hiring some commission-based reps online (probably from the phillipines / oDesk) to do some prospecting. It's commission so I'm not taking any risks.

I could mass-train a lot of reps via email (copy/pasting instructions, making brief personalizations). Surely many will fail as we can expect with outsourcing of this kind, but if I train enough with minimal effort (hence thaa mass training idea) I'm bound to find some quality agents.

      What do you guys think?
