Marketing Consultant Packages and prices?

Hello Warriors

Thanks to the warrior forum i am ready to start my marketing consultant business , i have 4 protenial client lined up, a dentist, small dance schools, a restaurant owner and week later a lawyer. The way i got these appointments was by letting them know that i have just started a marketing consultancy business in the local community and was offering free marketing consultantion to local business with the community.

The idea is to go to the appointment, listen to they problems and give them free real advice on how they could improve they business using google local, sms markering, mobile marketing , social marketing and seo etc....

:confused:My problem is when they ask me to help them what should i charge them?

For example the dance school owner currently has zero presence online, no website no g local nothing, his business is meduim sized and he is now looking to start marketing his business, what would you Warriors offer him and at what price?

The dentist is interest in have a mobile website and doing mobile marketing, what would you Warriors offer him and at what price?

Also how are you pricing these services?
Google local
Sms marketing
Mobile marketing
Social marketing
Seo
PPC
Mobile websites
Consulting
Google local + Mobile marketing + Mobile websites

I believe i can be very successful at this once i have pricing in place i have looked on the forum and the net but some consultant are charge local business thousands, 5000, 12000, plus 1000 monthly, i am just starting and not yet comfortable to be charging those prices maybe in 5 months .

Please reply now because i am taking action now, i would like to hear from all around the world but as i like in the UK, UK Warriors please respond.

Thanks Warriors

start high. you can also offer the first month free but start high. my packages start at $1k but my trial depends on the product. i have 3 packages for seo starting at $1k but if they want to try me first i offer a seo booster for $209, that has a money back guarantee. (50% margin)once they see any results, they are sold at any price. good luck.

you have to get comfortable being a consultant early on otherwise, you'll hate it because you wont be making enough and if you aren't doing all the services yourself, as a project manger you need to be making at least $20/hour to make sure you get all the work done in a timely fashion.

trust me i was all about the $37 video creation when ppl said sell for $197 because i wasn't comfortable and i would send over 10 hours making sure it was amazing and i was extremely under paid. (this was before i knew about animoto and i was doin it thru wmv)

Here is why your post is silly and no matter what the answers you get it will pretty much be irrelevant to you:

You are asking for advice on what to charge.

You already did research and found some answers and stated you were not comfortable with those rates.

SO Therefore just pick a rate you are comfortable with and try it out.

    Does this make sense?

Let me be even more explicit

IT TOTALLY DOESNT FKING MATTER WHAT RATE YOU CHARGE FOR ANYTHING , SO LONG AS THE THE PERSON PAYING CAN

    1. SEE THE VALUE IN THE SHORT TERM
    2. RECEIVE MORE THAN THAT PRICE IN THE LONG TERM

Although I agree with Eddy, I think when you are just starting out, it can be hard to demonstrate the value/show the results long term if :

    A) You haven't got much feedback from clients yet or
    B) You haven't got experience in explaining your value proposition yet

Even this week I encountered two business owners who balked at my $400 per month SEO pricing, EVEN AFTER we ran the numbers using actual statistics of website traffic from my previous clients.

Many business owners are just used to having no measurement for their investment so value propositions are difficult. You really have to HAMMER HOME the statistics and measurements (I use previous clients) and that can be hard if you have no data to go on.

This is to close more difficult clients. My first real SEO client was an auto electrician who had a fairly large business already so he wasn't as afraid to spend a few hundred per month on this type of marketing. So my advice would be to target a 'richer' niche when starting out, to get some clients in the door, before you go mass market with SEO.

I don't really have set prices but I would say SEO or web design starts at a certain amount which is bare minimum. But it really does depend on scope of work. Unless you are selling a specific thing that is same across the board like setting up a Google+ page, you can't really have set prices.

EDIT- another thing is the value for each different business. Hypothetically if the amount of hours required of me were the same doing work for a pizza shop vs. a lawyer, I would charge more for the lawyer. So it's not just about the hours put it in, but what the client can afford. At the end of the day, as long as my client is making money, I'm going to go after the most money I can.

  • Every client is different but you may want to create a few packages that help client's understand exactly what you are offering. They can clearly see they get x, y and z for $$$$.

Here is how one consultant "productizes" their service and how they deflect client requests to change a package:

Good to see others from the UK chiming in here.

Here is my take on pricing. You need to charge whatever is comfortable for you. It is always better to overcharge them rather than undercharging.

Undercharging will result in you absolutely hating the work you are doing, you'll start questioning yourself "Why am I putting in this much time for only £XXX a month", eventually resulting in you performing lower quality work as you rush to try and get it done.

Overcharging will be a lot harder to sell but you will find the exact opposite as above. You'll enjoy putting in the work and as such the quality will be higher as you'll be willing to spend more time on it, eventually leading to a very happy customer and eventually referrals.

Having said that I began my offline marketing career charging far too little, building websites for free and gaining my income on the back end for hosting. It helped me in the beginning as sales seemed to come a lot easier.

Now I prioritise my time a lot more. Charging a minimum of £500 a month for SEO (Google local and building a mobile website for them is included in this price)

Hi Jack thanks for commenting, do you charge setup costs then monthly and What businesses are you targeting?

Nope no setup costs, although I make sure I get them to pay for the first month before I begin the work.

I am currently targeting professionals, dentists, accountants that sort of thing but I'm looking to delve into the trade services soon.
