After Google Panda, do you think SEO directory submissions and blog commenting are still effective strategies to rank your site?:confused:

    Didn't notice directory submissions being effective pre-Panda. Blog commenting, do you do it on pr4 or pr0 pages?

      My fault. I didn't consider the PR of the blogs I used for blog commenting.

      Why? Any suggestion about the right strategies to use to rank a page would be very much appreciated. I'm sorry, I know I sound so clueless.

        You can only learn by doing and asking questions. No shame in asking for advice.

        Think about it like this... When you rank a page, why do you rank it? You want traffic. The PR of the page doesn't matter, the nofollow vs. dofollow, doesn't matter.. the goal is traffic. If you can get a backlink that generates some traffic it is a win-win. If you go to fiverr and blast 10,000 backlinks and not a single referral visitor comes, that is a problem. My rule, which doesn't always happen, but I shoot for it... 1 backlink should = 1 visitor by referral.

        Panda has to do with your site, whats on the site. Penguin has to do with shady backlinking.

        Your on page optimization is extremely important, maybe more important than backlinking at times.

        SEO is tough... it is always changing and you'll hear different theories from different people. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but definitely make sure you test out whatever you learn so you can see for yourself what works and what doesn't.

          Yes, Thank you! Now I understand it! I thought ranking my site and getting a lot of backlinks is the key. Someone told me before that he doesn't care about backlinks, he's just asking for visitors!!!

        Here is my suggestions about the right strategies to use to rank a page:

        * Fix all the on-page SEO issues(Meta content, sitemap, robot.txt etc)
        * Optimize for the Right Keywords:
        * Tweak Your Title Tags:
        * Slow and continuous off-page promotion

    Yes, they are still effective. However, we need to make sure that the directories onto which we're submitting to are seo-friendly and are in a different C-Class IP network.
